James Curtis, 1935-2015

James R. “Jim” Curtis, 79, died on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015 at 1:42 a.m. at his residence in Lima surrounded by his family.

Mr. Curtis was born on April 14, 1935, in Charleston, S.C., to James and Edith Eleanore (Whetsler) Curtis who preceded him in death. On Nov. 22, 1958, he married Sola Wireman and she survives in Lima.

He retired after working for 42 years as the co-owner of R&W Drywall Company. 

Also surviving are two sons: Tony Curtis of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mark (Cindy) of Lima; a daughter, Brenda Converse of Lima; six grandsons and two great grandchildren; two sisters: Linda (Ed) Jarrell of Lima and Anita (Garrett) Molands of Ada.

February is American Heart Month, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). That designation may not be cause for a large bouquet of flowers to be sent your way on Valentine’s Day, but some of the causes of heart disease are worth noting when considering our quality of life in Ada.

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the U.S., according to CDC statistics.

While we have all heard the medical reports that diet and exercise may help reduce the risk of heart disease, we don’t often hear about the impact that breathing our air has on our hearts.

How about a good murder mystery and dinner theatre? Tickets now on sale

Ready for a good mystery – and a great meal?

Tickets are now available to The Centre at Bluffton’s murder mystery dinner theatre taking place Saturday, March 7, according to Brenda Gaines, Center manager.

The drama is “Broadcast Radio Murders,” and the deadline for reservations is Monday, March 2. No tickets will be available at the door.

The drama is hosted by Mr. E. Murder Productions. Tickets are available at:
• $40 each
• Two for $74
• Table of eight for $380 ($35 each)
(plus sales tax)

Doors open at 6 p.m. Hors d’ oeuvres are served promptly at 6:30 p.m. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Columbus Crew camp Feb. 16 at BFR Sports and Fitness

A Columbus Crew SC Camp will take place Monday, Feb. 16, at BFR Sports & Fitness, Bluffton, according to Jeremy Parkins, Bluffton native and senior director, soccer business development for the Crew.

The camp is from 2 to 5 p.m., for youth ages 6 to 14. The cost is $75 per player.

"Crew SC winter camps series focus on player development through a core foundation of soccer skills in a challenging and fun learning environment. Each camper is sure to walk away with a positive experience and high quality training from the only professional soccer club in the region," said Parkins.

Spotts Lecture focuses on ‘Protecting Our Homeland'

Carey (Wurgler) Smith, president of Honeywell Technology Solutions Inc., will be the featured speaker for the Ohio Northern University Spotts Lecture in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, Feb. 23, at 7:30 p.m.

Smith’s speech, “Protecting Our Homeland: Past, Present and Future,” is free and open to the public.
