Memorial Day observance at 2 p.m. in Woodlawn, followed by service at Preston Cemetery

The Ada VFW and American Legion will conduct the annual Memorial Day services, Monday, May 25, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ada and at Preston Cemetery east of Alger on Monday.

The Ada service will begin at 2 p.m. at the monument near the chapel on the east side of the cemetery. The speaker will be Dave Archer who served in Vietnam.

 The service in Preston will follow immediately afterward.

In Ada, there will be an invocation, a speaker, and youth going to Boys' and Girls' State will read the Gettysburg Address written by Abraham Lincoln in 1864 and the poem "In Flanders's Field" written by John McCrae in1915.

Lights out

When a light bulb burns out in the parking lot of The Inn at ONU it's not a simple "climb a ladder job." It takes a fork lift and a trip the Ada's second floor, where the birds fly.

Ada's Farmers' Market returns in June - this time to the Depot parking lot

Yes, the Farmers Market will return to Ada this summer, but in a new location.

The market will operate from the Railroad Depot parking lot from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays beginning June 4.

There was a question about its operating this year due to new restrictions, regulations and requirements demanded by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, which now oversees farmers markets.

Those issues have now been resolved thanks to the assistance of ReStore personnel.

Softball: Ashley Sumner, Alexis Amburgey, Teyah Sautter, all-NWC

Ada HS softball player Ashley Sumner, junior, was named to the all-NWC second team, while teammates  Alexis Amburgey, senior, and Teyah Sautter, freshman, were named honorable mention.

In voting by Northwest Conference softball coaches for the 2015 softball season senior Hope Schroeder, a pitcher from Columbus Grove, was named Player of the Year after being runner-up for that honor during the 2014 season. 

Schroeder received first-place votes from 7 of the conference coaches.  Coaches may not vote for players from their own schools.

Baseball: Brayden Sautter, first team all-NWC; Seth Evans honorable mention

Brayden Sautter, Ada junior, was named to the first team all-NWC in baseball this season. In addition, Seth Evans, sophomore, was honorable mention.

In voting by Northwest Conference baseball coaches for the 2015 baseball season. senior Nate Owens, a catcher from Crestview was named Player of the Year.  Owens was a unanimous selection receiving 160 out of a possible 160 points in the balloting. 

Crestview coach Jim Wharton tallied 19 points to be named Coach of the Year at the all-conference selection meeting Monday evening in Delphos. Spencerville's coach Troy Montenery finished second in the coach of the year balloting.

Ada VFW car/motorcycle show July 18

The Ada VFW will host a car/motorcycle show on Saturday, July 18, at the post. The event is free and open to the public.

Registration will be held from 2-5 p.m. Cost of pre-registration is $10, and $15 on the day of the event. The show is open to any auto or bike. Winners will be announced at 8:30 pm.
