Sever thunderstorms heading our way today

AEP meteorologists anticipate severe thunderstorms containing damaging winds the Icon readership area later today. Here's AEP's announcement:

A cold front in Illinois will move into I&M Power just as an upper-level disturbance (now over Missouri) arrives. Ample sunshine & humidity will generate moderate instability by afternoon as temperatures reach the low-mid 80s.

Expect a broken line of severe storms to organize over Indiana midday...then cross eastern I&M Power (Ft. Wayne, Muncie) early this afternoon.

Five summer sports camps are ready to go this summer for Ada athletes. Here’s the details.

Ada Lady Bulldog basketball camp
Monday, June 1, to Wednesday, June 3
Students entering grades 3-5: 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Students entering grades 6-8: 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

4th to 6th grade volleyball camp
Monday, June 8, to Thursday, June 11
1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Ohio Northern University Summer Music Camp taking applications

Registration is still open for the Ohio Northern University Summer Music Camp to be held June 14-19.

Ohio Northern University Summer Music Camp, open to students in grades 7-12, is a five-day musical experience that offers students a place to grow musically in a fun and exciting learning environment. Summer Music Campers attend classes that address important areas of musicianship like music theory, music technology, conducting, dance, piano classes and jazz improvisation.

Help building a school, sharing the Gospel, purpose of Uganda trip by Ada residents...and a wedding anniversary

Bob Gould and his wife Abby (formerly Abby Epley) head to Uganda on June 4 to help build a school and share The Gospel as part of their mission work with their local church, Crossroads Church of God located on State Route 309 west of Ada.

The team will also include Ada residents Christian and Kayla Breedlove and Anna Yoakam among the seven people going this year.

Bob says most of the people on the islands of Lake Victoria live in mud huts without electricity or running water.

He has gone to the African nation six times to help build churches and schools. The nation is roughly 85% Christian and 12% Muslim.

Got mulch? I'll take a trailer load

Jerry Dearth and Beth Fenton shovel in a load of mulch at the Ada Lions Club mulch sale at Bass Trucking on State Route 81 west of town.

Club members have sold six semi loads of black and brown mulch so far this year and will continue the sale another two or three weeks. Mulch can be ordered by calling 419-302-5987 for delivery on Saturdays.

The sales area is open for pickup at 8 a.m. Saturdays until done. Delivery costs $10 in Ada and surrounding area or $20 a distance away.

This year the club gave out $6,100 in scholarships to nine Ada graduating seniors, and a total of $61,000 over the past 13 years. (Monty Siekerman)
