Town and Gown nominations accepted until Oct. 15

The Ada Town and Gown committee seeks nominations for the 2015 Distinguished Citizen of the Year. The Town and Gown ceremony will be held in the ballroom of Ohio Northern University’s McIntosh Center on Monday, Nov. 2, at 6:30 p.m.

The deadline for nominations is Thursday, Oct. 15.

Nominees should be accomplished individuals who have gone above and beyond to improve the quality of the Ada community and/or Ohio Northern University.

Right out of the garden

There's a fresh vegetable-fruit stand on Main Street Ada. At the moment there's a wide selection of tomatoes, apples, peppers and cucumbers. You'll find these edibles at Ada Flea Market, 111 N. Main St.

Ada Christmas sign ups to be held Oct. 27 and Nov. 1

Ada Christmas sign ups will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Ada on
Tuesday Oct. 27 from 5-6 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov.1 from noon-1 p.m. You must
live in the Ada school district, bring your drivers license or state ID and
provide proof of current address.

County Line Church of the Brethren's Homecoming Oct. 11

All are invited to attend the County Line Church of the Brethren's Homecoming 2015 on  Sunday, Oct. 11. The guest speaker is Rev. Terry Porter and there will be a gathering of worship leaders and musicians from past years, led by Wayne McOwen.

The day includes Sunday school at 9:30 a.m., worship at 10:30 p.m., followed by a carry-in lunch in the multipurpose building.

 

Wonder Word turns out as a great exercise in learning word meanings

This looks like fun. And it is.

Ada school speech language pathologist, Sherry Miller, created a vocabulary program at Ada elementary that’s a big hit with students.

“The intent of this Wonder Word vocabulary project is to boost vocabulary overall our entire building,” she says.

“Vocabulary acquisition is a powerful tool and scientifically proven as a link in becoming a stronger reader and writer,” she adds.
