Wonder Word turns out as a great exercise in learning word meanings

This looks like fun. And it is.

Ada school speech language pathologist, Sherry Miller, created a vocabulary program at Ada elementary that’s a big hit with students.

“The intent of this Wonder Word vocabulary project is to boost vocabulary overall our entire building,” she says.

“Vocabulary acquisition is a powerful tool and scientifically proven as a link in becoming a stronger reader and writer,” she adds.

Two named Robinson Young Alumni of the Year

Ohio Northern University has named 2001 graduates Todd Bailey and Natalie DiPietro Mager as co-recipients of the William L. Robinson Young Alumni of the Year Award.

The award is given each year to individuals who are committed to Ohio Northern University, his/her profession and the community. The award is named in honor of Bill Robinson, a 1961 Ohio Northern graduate who served the University for more than 50 years in numerous capacities and has been a positive influence on countless students and alumni.

Visitation for Gary Reams on Monday

Gary B. Reams, 71, died on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015 at 1 a.m. at Lima Manor, Lima.

He was born on Dec. 25, 1943, in Allen County, to Harold and Ona (Balmer) Reams who preceded him in death. On Jan. 27, 1968 he married Carol S. Hughes and she survives in Lima.

Gary retired from Sprint where he worked as a central office equipment installer. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War. Gary was a former member of the Ada First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post #96 of Lima. 

Martha Madigan served in the Navy in World War II

Martha M. Madigan, 91, died on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, at 7:55 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.

She was born on Jan. 12, 1924, in Sidney, Ohio to Adolph H. and Rose (Kuether) Barhorst who preceded her in death. On May 20, 1947, she married Paul M. Madigan and he preceded her in death on March 31, 1999.

Martha was a homemaker. She was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during WWII. Martha was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Ada. She was a 1942 graduate of Russia High School. 

Buy Ada First Committee invites you to taste every pizza in Ada on Oct. 26

The Buy Ada First committee will host a pizza cook-off event at the Ada Depot, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 26, at the Ada Depot. 

Local restaurants will enter pizza of their choice and residents are welcome to taste the pizza and vote on their favorite. The local restaurant with the most votes will win the 2015 Pizza Cook-off People’s Favorite Choice Award. The winner will be announced around 7:30 p.m.
