Society of Manufacturing Engineers Merit Award to ONU student

Nick Reza, a senior manufacturing technology major from Ada, Ohio, was awarded a Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Merit Award for the 2015-16 academic year.

Reza, who will receive $750, was selected by faculty members of the ONU Department of Technological Studies based on his participation in the ONU SME Chapter S186, scholastic accomplishments, financial need and application responses. Funds for the awards come from fundraising activities by the ONU SME chapter and the Lima chapter of SME.

School board policy committee meets Dec. 10

The Ada Exempted Village Schools Board of Education Policy Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 8;30 a.m. in the Board of Education office, 725 W. North Ave., Ada.

Fast-paced Presser Hall concert provides international sounds

It was not just any Tuesday evening chamber ensemble concert in Presser Hall on the ONU campus. It featured international beats and movements performed by local musicans and dancers.

Adam Grim and Dr. Sarah Waters directed the performance.

Photos representing difference aspects of the performance  include:

• ONU students performing a fast-paced and physically challenging traditional African dance.

The group performed a Ghanian ritual dance of harvest arranged by Benjamin Obodo Ayettey who also directed the dance and drum ensemble.

Jo Nell Hanratty's home will be open for Sunday's Candy Cane Tour

Jo Nell Hanratty readies her house for the Candy Cane Tour from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Her house at 525 W. Lima Ave. Is one of several homes, businesses and a church on the tour.

Jo Nell is retired from working at local banks for the past 32 years. One of her decorations is an old toy bank.

A holiday story she shares is about her writing to Santa when she was a child in Cleveland. The letter, addressed to the North Pole, was returned with the notation "no such address," she was heartbroken. The Cleveland Plain Dealer found out about the crass notation and wrote a page one story about it.

2,700 steps in 40 minutes - that's a workout!

Zumba Gold, a low impact exercise program for senior citizens, meets at 9 a.m. on Thursdays at ReStore.

Taught by Lynne Scott, the workout sessions to music have been held there for more than two years.

Going through their paces this week were (from left) Peg Lawrence, Lynne Scott, and Julie Ludanyi.

Julie's "watch" said she took 2,700 steps during the 40-minute session, which is about one-fourth of what a person should walk each day. The ladies said Zumba is fun and healthy. The cost is by donation.
