Zumberger Tournament MVP as Northern wins 34th annual ONU Invite

Senior Kelsie Zumberger was named Tournament MVP as the Ohio Northern volleyball team clinched the ONU Invitational with a 25-19, 22-25, 25-15, 25-14 victory over Trine (Ind.) Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

Northern is now 4-0 on the season while the Thunder stand at 2-1.

Zumberger had a phenominal weeked posting 159 assists and 37 digs. She has missed the past two seasons due to injury.

Juniors Jeni Kmic and Kristen Davidson joined Zumberger on the All Tournament Team as well.

In Set 1 against Trine, Northern found themselves tied at 17-17 and used a 4-0 run to expand the lead to 21-17.

VB sweeps by Thiel at ONU Invitational

The Ohio Northern volleyball team won three tight sets over Thiel (Pa.) to begin Day 2 of the ONU Invitational Saturday morning at the ONU Sports Center.

Northern won by scores of 25-22, 27-25, 25-23 to up their record on the season to 3-0.

The Tomcats fall to 0-3.

Junior Kristen Davidson led the way for the Polar Bears with 14 kills while senior Ellen Grenert had 13.

Junior Julia Fuerst had 11 kills and a .350 hitting percentage to pace ONU.

Kelly Barzak had 12 kills to lead Thiel.

With the score all knotted at 14-14 in Set 1, Fuerst registered a kill to put Northern in front for good.

Polar Bears lose opener on FG in overtime

B.G. Howell kicked a 40-yard field goal in overtime to lift North Carolina Wesleyan to a 16-13 football victory over Ohio Northern on a hot Saturday afternoon at Northern Nash Athletic Complex in the season opener for both teams.

Junior Tyler Rue led the Polar Bears (0-1 overall) through the air and on the ground, completing 26 of 37 passes for 215 yards and a TD and running 15 times for 60 yards and a score.

Bluffton slips past Ada boys' 3-1

Volleyball tops Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) to go 2-0 at ONU Invitational

The Ohio Northern volleyball team topped Carnegie Mellon by a 25-17, 25-27, 25-15, 25-18 score to move to 2-0 on the first day of the ONU Invitational.

Northern is now 2-0 on the season while the Tartans fall to 0-2.

ONU is also tied for first place after day one of the event with Trine (Ind.).

Junior Kristen Davidson led the way for ONU with 19 kills.

Senior Kelsie Zumberger had 48 assists to lead Northern.

Ali Celentano paced Carnegie Mellon with 15 kills on the evening.

The Polar Bears used a 6-0 run midway through Set 1 to take a commanding 14-6 lead.

No. 12 women's soccer opens season with 1-1 draw

The No. 12 Ohio Northern women's soccer team opened their 2012 campaign with a 1-1 tie against Grove CIty (Pa.) Friday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.

Both teams stand at 0-0-1 on the young season.

The Polar Bears struck first when sophomore Kristina Klusek took a pass from junior Lauryn Zielinski and rocketed a shot from the top right of the goalie box into the net.

The goal was her first of the season.

Klusek almost gave added another goal in the 51st minute by making a nice move in the right of the goalie box around a defender.
