Junior Cenzie Yoder scored a game high 19 points as the Ohio Northern women's basketball team used a dominating second half performace to pull away from Kenyon for a 83-55 win Tuesday night at the ONU Sports Center.
With the win, the Polar Bears are now 2-1 on the season, while the Ladies fall to 2-1.
ONU outscored Kenyon 50-27 in the second half, using multiple runs to expand their lead.
Yoder shot 8-of-9 from the field. In addition, she pulled down eight rebounds and recorded six assists.
Senior Morgan Dumbaugh added 16 points and senior Joanna Snyder chipped in with 13.
Kayla Ernst led the Ladies with 15 points.
A tight first half saw ONU take a 33-28 lead into the break. The Polar Bears opened the second half on a 9-3 run to extend their lead to 42-31.
After a Kenyon basket, Northern added an 8-0 run to push their lead to 50-33.
Yoder scored four points during the run, while senior Katie Mengos and junior Sara Kocian each added a basket.
The Polar Bear would keep on building a larger lead and a layup by Sndyer with 9:36 left put ONU up 60-41.
With a 65-46 advantage, the Polar Bears used an 11-2 run to open up their largest lead of the game at 78-48.
Kenyon would have no response as Northern would notch a home opener win.
ONU shot a solid 33-of-61 (54.1 percent) from the field, going 20-of-33 (60.6 percent) from the field in the second half.
The Ladies went 22-of-56 (39.3 percent) from the field. The Polar Bears dominated the rebounding battle pulling down 44, compared to just 20 for Kenyon.
Northern also held a 46-22 advatage in points in the point and scored 20 points off of Kenyon turnovers.
Ohio Northern will be in action again this weekend when they take part in the St. Mary's (Ind.) Classic. The Polar Bears will face off against Albion (Mich.) on Saturday at 7 pm and play host St. Mary's (Ind.) on Sunday at 1 pm.
