Women's Soccer ties RIT (N.Y.) in First Round of NCAA tournament; advances 4-2 on penalty kicks

Junior goalkeeper Kimmy Connor stopped two shots in penalty kicks as the Ohio Northern women's soccer team tied RIT (N.Y.) 1-1 but advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament 4-2 on penalty kicks, Saturday afternoon at the CMU Soccer Field.
The Polar Bears now improve to 13-4-5 on the season, while the Tigers conclude their season at 11-5-3.

ONU advances to the second round and will face No. 17 Carnegie Mellon tomorrow at 1:30 pm.

Men's Cross Country finishes 7th of 37 teams at NCAA III Great Lakes Regional meet

Ohio Northern finished seven of 37 teams with 321 points at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional men's Cross Country Championships Saturday morning.

The Polar Bears end their season with a 110-30 record.

Junior Mark Berton led ONU with a 21st place finish out of 256 runners in 25:49.
Sophomore Nathan Rosenbaum, junior Evan McKee, junior Tyler Feitshans and junior Mathew Johnson finished in a tight pack.

Rosenbaum was 72nd in 26:39, McKee was 73rd in 26:39, Feitshans was 76th in 26:40 and Johnson was 79th in 26:44.

Williams Jones of Franciscan won the individual title in 24:26.

Humphrey throws for a career-high 324 yards as Football wraps up 2012 campaign with 24-13 loss at Otterbein

Senior Tate Humphrey completed 19-of-34 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns but Ohio Northern fell 24-13 at Otterbein Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium in the 2012 season finale for both teams.

The Polar Bears end their season with a 4-6 record and are 4-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals finish up 8-2, 7-2.

senior Carter Paul carried the ball 18 times for 77 yards and senior Justin Wilson caught eight passes for a career-high 138 yards and two scores for ONU.

Ben Sizemore completed 6 of 14 passing for 107 yards and a TD for OU.

Tokar, Batman win Special Awards as seven named All-OAC in Women's Soccer

Senior Tara Tokar was named OAC Midfielder of the Year, head coach Mark Batman was voted OAC Coach of the Year and seven players were named All-OAC in women's soccer in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.

Senior defender Paige Garber, sophomore forward Kristina Klusek and Tokar all were named First Team All-OAC.

Senior goalie Erin Waehner, junior midfielder Abbie Schauble and junior defenseman Abby Vargo were each voted Second Team All-OAC.

Junior forward Sami Atkinson was also named Honorable Mention All-OAC.

Volleyball eliminated in First round of NCAA III Tournament by #2 Wittenberg

Ohio Northern was eliminated by No. 2-ranked Wittenberg in the First Round of the NCAA III Volleyball Great Lakes Regional Tournament 25-23, 25-20, 25-17 Thursday afternoon at Calvin's Van Noord Arena.

The Polar Bears end their season at 24-7 overall, while the Tigers improve to 26-4.

Wittenberg will advance to the Second Round of the tournament and will face either No. 6-ranked Hope (Mich.) or No. 10-ranked Otterbein Friday at 4:30 pm.

The Regional finals are slated for Saturday at 7 pm.

Senior Ellen Grenert had eight kills and freshman Kaitlann Hogrefe and freshman Anna Ricker had seven kills each for the Polar Bears.

ONU men's soccer sweeps special awards, 7 all-OAC

The Ohio Northern men's soccer team won all five of the Special Awards and had seven players named All-OAC in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.

Senior Nate Bascom was named OAC Forward of the Year, senior Mac Church earned OAC Goalkeeper of the Year and senior Chris Matejka was voted Midfielder of the Year.

In addition, senior Austin Windsor was named OAC Defender of the Year and head coach Brent Ridenour was voted OAC Coach of the Year.

Bascom, Matejka, Windsor and Church all were named First Team All-OAC as were senior Cameron Johnson and freshman Keegan Ross.
