Ada Icon enhances high school sports coverage; adds NWC website to home page

The Ada Icon has enhanced its high school sports coverage this week. The Icon now offers a link to the Northwest Conference league website. The site is easily accessible on the bottom left of the Icon home page.

The site includes up-to-the-day coverage of all NWC teams, scores, league standings and links to several other area league websites.

In addition it provides historical data and stats from the individual Northwest Conference schools. Click here to view the website, or find the NWC logo on the bottom left of the home page.

No. 15 women's basketball tops Otterbein 71-43 for ninth straight victory

-Four players scored in double figures as the No. 15 Ohio Northern women's basketball team defeated Otterbein by a 71-43 score at the Rike Center on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 10-1 and remain a perfect in OAC play at 5-0, while the Cardinals fall to 6-3, 2-2.

Senior Morgan Dumbaugh led Northern with 13 points.

Junior Cenzie Yoder and freshman Brooke Espenschied each scored 12, while senior Joannna Snyder chipped in with 11.

The Polar Bears had a lead for the majority of the first half and found themselves ahead 31-23 with 34 seconds left in the first half.

Lucas Pennington ties career-high with 22 points as men's basketball falls to Otterbein 79-70

Sophomore Lucas Penningto tied a career-high with 22 points to lead the Ohio Northern men's basketball team in a 79-70 loss to Otterbein Wednesday evening at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears fall to 6-5 overall and are 2-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Cardinals improve to 5-4, 2-2.

Pennington nailed four 3-pointers and added two assists and three steals to go with his game-high 22 points.

Junior Branden Rushton added 16 points and junior Dominique Royal added 13 points for ONU.

Otterbein was led by Andy Yazrombek with 21 points and C.J. Julian with 14 points.

Four named All-Ohio; four named Academic All-Ohio in women's soccer

Four Ohio Northern women's soccer players were named All-Ohio and four were named Academic All-Ohio in voting conducted by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association.

Senior Tara Tokar and sophomore Kristina Klusek were named First Team All-Ohio.

Senior defender Paige Garber and juniorAbby Vargo were both named Second Team All-Ohio.

Head coach Mark Batman was also named Coach of the Year.

Garber and Tokar were named First Team Academic All-Ohio, while junior Abbie Schauble was named Second Team Academic All-Ohio and junior Lauren Brown was named Third Team Academic All-Ohio.

Tokar, a pharmacy major, was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-Region team.

Women's basketball ranked No. 15 in D3hoops.com poll; No. 19 in USA Today sports coaches poll

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team rose two spots in both the D3hoops.com poll and the USA Today Sports Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The Polar Bear are ranked No. 15 in the D3hoops.com poll and No. 19 in the USA Today Sports Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll.

In the D3hoops.com poll, ONU received 217 points.

DePauw (Ind.) remained in the top sport with 623 points, fellow OAC foe Mount Union is second with 583 points and Calvin (Mich.) remains No. 3 with 523 points.

The Polar Bears were ranked No. 24 in the first weekly poll, No. 20 in the second poll and No. 17 in the third poll.

Six named All-Ohio; five named Academic All-Ohio in men's soccer

Five Ohio Northern men's soccer players were named All-Ohio and four were named Academic All-Ohio in voting done by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association.

Seniors Nate Bascom, Mac Church,Cameron Johnson and Austin Windsorwere all named First Team All-Ohio.

In addition, senior Chris Matejka and freshman Keegan Ross were both named Second Team All-Ohio and head coach Brent Ridenour was named Coach of the Year.

Bascom, Church, Johnson and Windsor were also named First Team Academic All-Ohio, while junior Matt Fleming was named Second Team Academic All-Ohio.

Bascom earns his second straight First Team All-Ohio First Team Academic All-Ohio selection.
