Joanna Snyder named to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 team

Senior Joanna Snyder has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 team for women's basketball in voting done by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Snyder, who has a double major in mathematics and education, will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America.

This season, she has started in all 20 contests and ranks second on the team in scoring at 13.8 ppg and in rebounding at 6.2 rpg.

The Capital One Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their performance on the floor and in the classroom.

ONU women host annual "Hoops for a Cure" Feb. 6

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team will host its annual "Hoops for a Cure" game on Wednesday, Feb. 6, against Heidelberg at 7:30 p.m. at the ONU Sports Center.

The No. 6-ranked Polar Bears will hold a bake sale and raffle off assorted gift baskets with all proceeds benefiting charity.

Northern will also wear pink warmups throughout the evening.

Ohio Northern has a school record 18-game winning streak and stands at 19-1 on the season and is a perfect 13-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Pennington, Royal, Rushton combine for 61 as men's basketball wins at Otterbein 82-73

Sophomore Lucan Pennington scored 21 points and juniors Dominique Royal and Branden Rushton had 20 points each to lead Ohio Northern to an 82-73 men's basketball road win at Otterbein Wednesday night at the Rike Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 9-11 overall and are 5-8 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Cardinals fall to 7-13, 4-9.

Pennington nailed 8-of-11 field goal attempts, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range, to lead ONU.

Northern got on top quick and never trailed in the contest, scoring eight of the first nine points to take an 8-1 lead.

Dominant second half leads no. 6 women's basketball to 65-42 win over Otterbein

The No. 6 Ohio Northern women's basketball team outscored Otterbein 36-18 in the second half to get its school record 18th straight win by a 65-42 score on Wednesday evening at the ONU Sports Center.

With the win the Polar Bears go to 19-1 overall and 13-0 in the OAC, while the Cardinals fall to 16-4 and 10-3 in the OAC play.

Northern held the Cardinals to just 5-of-24 (20.8 percent) shooting in the second half and forced 10 turnovers.

Senior Morgan Dumbaugh led the way for ONU with 17 points.

Junior Cenzie Yoder added 10 points for Northern.

Softball ranked No. 15 in National Fastpitch Coaches Association preseason poll

The Ohio Northern softball team, under third-year head coach Kim Burke, is ranked No. 15 in the 2013 preseason NCAA Division III poll by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

The Polar Bears received 92 points in the poll.

ONU has now been nationally ranked in five consecutive seasons and finished the year ranked No. 11 in 2012.

Pacific Lutheran (Wash.) was unanimous No. 1 choice after winning the NCAA III Tournament title, receiving all eight first place votes and 200 points overall.

Lovejoy's pin leads No. 18 Wrestling to 21-17 victory over No. 30 Mount Union in battle of OAC unbeatens

Sophomore Cody Lovejoy posted a second-period pin in the final bout of the night to help No. 18-ranked Ohio Northern to a 21-17 victory over No. 30-ranked Mount Union in a battle of Ohio Athletic Conference wrestling unbeatens Tuesday evening at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 14-2 and remain undefeated and in first place in the OAC at 3-0, while the Purple Raiders fall to 6-3, 2-1.

Lovejoy got his team-best 16th pin of the season in 4:51 in the heavyweight class as ONU rallied from a 17-12 deficit to win its 13th consecutive OAC regular season dual match.
