Heath Jackson and BGSU Falcons soar over Northern Illinois

Heath Jackson, Ada High School graduate and BGSU red-shirt junior wide receiver, scored one of BG's five touchdown receptions when the Falcons soared over the Northern Illinois Huskies 47-27.

The Falcons are the Mid American Conference Champions for the first time since 1992. This is their first-ever win in a MAC Championship game. It is the 11th MAC Championship for BG.

Northern Illinois entered the game ranked 14th in the nation and were on their way to a second BCS game in a row until they ran into a flock of Falcons who were determined to end a three-game losing streak to the Huskies.

Cenzie Yoder becomes 12th ONU women to score 1,000 career points

Senior Cenzie Yoder became the 12th player in Ohio Northern women's basketball history to score 1,000 career points, as the Ohio Northern women's basketball team defeated Muskingum 81-71 on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 6-2 on the season and 1-2 in the OAC, while the Fighting Muskies fall to 2-5, 1-1.

Yoder stepped up and drained a free throw with 3:10 left in the game for her 1,000th career point.

Metzner, Wagner break ONU pentathlon record

Junior Gabrielle Metzner and sophomore Kristine Wagner both broke the school record in the pentathlon on Friday evening at the Oiler Open.

Metzner finished in fifth with 2,775 points and Wagner was right behind in sixth with 2,691 points, both breaking the school record of 2,355 points.

Wagner captured the long jump during the event, while Metzner was third in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.55 seconds.

Other members of both track & field teams competed as well.

Rayhill sets ONU swimming-diving mark

Senior Lindsey Rayhill  broke her own school record and surpassed the NCAA "B" Cut in the 200 fly to lead the Ohio Northern women's swimming & diving team on the third and final day of the Wooster Invitational on Saturday at the Shapiro Natatorium and the Wooster Natatorium.

The Polar Bears finished sixth of 10 teams with 940 points.

Nationally-ranked NCAA Division II schools Edinboro (Pa.) and Gannon (Pa.) finished 1-2 in the team standings. No. 30-ranked Edinboro won the meet with 1574points, No. 28 Gannon was second with 1355 points and Division III Westminster (Pa.) was third with 1116.5 points.

ONU men drop opener to Baldwin Wallace

The Ohio Northern men's basketball team fell in its OAC opener to Baldwin Wallace 72-68 on Wednesday evening at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears fall to 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-1, 1-0.

Senior Branden Rushton led ONU with a game high 18 points, going 7-of-12 from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 in three pointers.

Senior Dominique Royal added 14 points and junior Jordan Martin chipped in with 11.

Jaron Crowe and Kevin Krakowiak each scored 16 for BW.

A three pointer from Rushton with 4:16 to play cut the Baldwin Wallace lead to 65-64.
