Ada vs. Spencerville girls' game re-scheduled for Monday

The Spencerville at Ada girls basketball game was cancelled Thursday and has been re-scheduled for Monday, February 10. No JV game, with varsity tip-off at 6 p.m.

Ada swimmers in Division II sectional on Saturday

The Lima YMCA will be the host site for the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s D-II Section 5 Sectional meet from 11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8.

There will be 14 teams with a total of 237 swimmers from the following schools:

Ada, Celina, Elida, Fostoria, Kenton, Lima Bath, Lima Central Catholic, Lima Shawnee, Marion Local, Minster, New Bremen, Ridgemont, St. Henry and St. Marys Memorial. 

ONU wrestlers finish 7th of 34-teams at Wheaton Invite

Eighth-seeded sophomore Jordan Hardrick (Huber Heights/Wayne) and sixth-seeded freshman Chase Sumner (Ada) each placed fourth to lead the Ohio Northern wrestling team to a seventh place finish at the 34-team Pete Willson-Wheaton (Ill.) Invitational Friday and Saturday at King Arena.

Hardrick placed fourth at 165 pounds with a 5-2 record and Sumner placed fourth at 149 pounds with a 4-1 record.

Fourth-seeded senior Jeff Andrews (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) placed fifth at 141 pounds with a 4-2 record and junior Cash Thompson (Lake Odessa, Mich./Lakewood) was 2-2 at 197 pounds to place sixth.

Women’s win streak at five

Men fall to Mt. Union

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team ran its winning streak to five games with a 70-63 victory at Mount Union on Saturday afternoon at the McPherson Athletic Center.

The Polar Bears (15-4 overall, 9-3 Ohio Athletic Conference) were led by seniors Emily Mescher (Maria Stein/Marion Local) and Abby Weeks (West Chester/Mount Notre Dame) with 14 points each and sophomore Jaidyn Hale (Lima/Bath) with 12 points.

The Purple Raiders (10-9, 4-8) had four players in double figures in scoring, led by Elena Rauhe with 13 points.

Ohio Northern ended the first period on a 14-3 run to lead 18-10 after 10 minutes of play.

Rich Johnson wins Icon Super Bowl Contest

Richard Johnson of Bluffton is the winner of the Icon's Super Bowl contest.

He picked Kansas City to defeat San Francisco by 11 to 14 points. Two other contestants also picked Kansas City by 11 to 14. Those contestants were Joel Groman and Eugene Haywood.

Johnson won the tie-breaker by predicting that San Francisco would be the first team to score. Groman and Haywood picked Kansas City as the first team to score.

The contest had 52 entries and 25 picked Kansas City to win.

Johnson wins six passes to the Shannon Theatre.

Ada girls splash Kenton

Ada swims in the Div. III sectionals Saturday at the Lima YMCA

KENTON - The Ada girls swim team won a dual meet at local rival Kenton last Tuesday night at the Hardin County YMCA to finish their regular season on a high note. 

The Lady Bulldog swimmers dunked the Wildcat girls, while Kenton beat the Bulldogs boys. 

Several Ada swimmers touched first in their events, with four winning a pair of races. 

Lady Bulldog senior standout Klava Katayama captured first in the 100-yard butterfly and in the 50 freestyle.
