Ada softball shut out in sectionals by Vikings

The Ada High School varsity softball team lost 8-0 at Leipsic in the Div. IV softball sectional finals Thursday evening, May 12, to be eliminated from the tournament.

"We still need to cut down on the errors to win games," said Ada head coach Jeff Bassitt. The Bulldog girls committed 10 miscues, while the Vikings made no errors.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 5-13 with the defeat. The Viking girls improved to 16-4 with the win and advanced to the district semifinals next week in Elida.

The Ada High School tennis team competed in the Div. II sectional tournament Thursday, May 12 at UNOH in Lima.

Three Bulldogs participated in the singles tournament, while two tandems played in the doubles bracket.

Bulldog senior Dexter Woods easily defeated Gage Buxton of Kenton 6-0, 6-0 in his first match. Woods then lost to eventual semifinalist Max Gaumier of LCC 6-1, 6-0 in the round of 16.

Junior Brendan Jameson lost a very close three-setter to Wapakoneta's Connor Coffey in his round of 32 opening match. He fell 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.

Bulldog boys felled by big innings

The Ada High School baseball team lost to visiting Spencerville 17-2 in a Northwest Conference makeup contest on a very warm Wednesday evening, May 11.

Ada fell to 5-12 overall and 0-7 in the NWC with the five-inning defeat. Meanwhile, the Bearcats improved to 6-15 and finished 5-3 in NWC play with the run-rule shortened win.

The Bearcats led 3-2 after two innings. They plated seven runs in each of the third and fourth frames to put the game out of reach.

Spencerville out-hit Ada 8-2 and capitalized on six Bulldog errors.

Bearcat Jack Cox homered and earned the pitching win to pace the victors.

 

Ada softball cages Bearcats

The Ada High School varsity softball team decisively defeated visiting Spencerville 7-1 in a Northwest Conference makeup game on a hot Wednesday evening, May 11.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 5-12 overall and 2-5 in the NWC with the win on Senior Night. The Bearcat girls fell to 5-15 overall and 0-7 in the NWC after the defeat. 

"It was a good way to go out on Senior Night and get another league win," said Ada head coach Jeff Bassitt. "We had timely hitting and good pitching." 

Lone Bulldog senior Morgan Dirmeyer was recognized before the game and played the first five innings in right field.

Bulldog tennis squad nipped by Bluffton, 3-2

The Ada High School tennis team lost 3-2 at local rival Bluffton in a makeup match Tuesday evening, May 10.

The Bulldog dual match record dropped to 4-5 with the defeat. Bluffton improved to 5-6 after the victory. 

Ada won the top two singles matches easily in the battle between the only two Northwest Conference teams to sport varsity spring tennis. 

Bulldog senior Dexter Woods cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at first singles over senior Luke Shadle.

Junior Brendan Jameson rolled in straight sets at second singles over junior Braeden Ackerman, also by a 6-1, 6-1 count.

Bulldog netters nip Upper Sandusky

The Ada High School tennis team defeated visiting Upper Sandusky 3-2 Monday, April 9, on a warm, sunny evening at the park courts.

The Bulldogs improved their record to 4-4 with the victory in the regular season finale. 

Ada swept all three singles matches to register the win.

Ada senior Dexter Woods utilized a solid ground game and good serving to post a convincing 6-1, 6-3 win at first singles.

Junior Brendan Jameson triumphed in a three-setter at second singles.

Heady Ada junior Amelia Alexander also won handily 6-1, 6-2 at third singles by keeping the ball in play and rarely making errors.
