July 5 is registration deadline to vote in August 2 Ohio primary

Ohio voters will select nominees for state legislative offices in a second primary election on Aug. 2. Registration, ballot and voting information is listed below.

Polls for the Ada North and South precincts will be open from 6:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. at 1200 S Main St., the Ada Community Health Professionals building.

Book Review: The roots of an assassin

Occasionally a book comes along that captures and holds my interest until it's finished. Whether it is story or plot or writing skill, I'm pulled in and all other activities I'm doing fade away because I'm hooked into the book.

Booth (Random House, ISBN 978-0-593-55649-8) is Karen Joy Fowler's 2022 release, and her second novel. (Her first novel is We are All Completely Besides Ourselves). The well-written story is a meticulous glimpse into the past before Abraham Lincoln was killed in cold blood by John Wilkes Booth.

Holiday weekend flush with celebrations

Ada will celebrate the Independence Day weekend with two holiday-themed events: a 7:00 p.m. Patriotic Pops concert on Saturday, July 2 and the Pride of Ada Fireworks at 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 2.

Dr. Melissa J. Baumann installed as 12th president of ONU

Dr. Melissa J. Baumann is Ohio Northern University’s 12th president. Since becoming president in July 2022, shortly after the conclusion of the University’s sesquicentennial celebration that focused on furthering its legacy of success, she has committed to supporting ONU’s mission and vision by strengthening its strategic plan and branding to enhance the institution’s already illustrious programs and to realign other programming with current and future workforce needs.

Whether you and your child play golf to relax on the weekends or to be competitive, a risk of injury exists just like in other sports. It is important to take precautions against getting hurt and to seek medical attention in the case of injury.

Harold E. Compton was a U.S. Army veteran

Harold E. Compton, age 82, of Belle Center, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at the Blanchard Place in Kenton.

He was born on January 25, 1940, in Alger, Ohio to the late Bruce E. and Flossie M. (Wooley) Compton.  In March of 1962 Harold married Joyce L. Thompson and she preceded him in death on September 10, 2014. 

Harold is survived by a son, Shaun (Cindy) Compton of Roundhead; two daughters: Lori (James) Goldsmith of Kenton, and Beth (David) Kretz of Beavercreek; ten grandchildren, and several great grandchildren; and two sisters: Helen Louise McDaniel of Florida, and Joyce Shirk of Indian Lake.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Compton.
