Alger Public Library creates gifts and memorial donation program

To honor family, friends or associates

Alger Public Library has established a program for patrons to honor family members, friends and associates through the donation of funds to purchase books at the library, according to Stacey Hensley, director.

“We invite you to honor family members, friends and associates with a lasting gift of books or other library material to the Alger Public Library,” she said.

For a donation of $25 or more, a new acquisition will be added to the collection.

“You may designate a specific subject area and the type of material you prefer – a book, audiobook or DVD  – or let us select an appropriate item,” she said.

Bridge replacement project completed on CR 60

Hardin County engineer's office informed the Icon that its bridge replacement project  on County Road 60, between County Road 75 and Township Road 85  is completed. That stretch of road is now open to traffic.

 

 

McGuffey cleaning up for its 125th anniversary

Over 40 students and residents cleaned railroad bed picking up everything including the kitchen sink

Residents of McGuffey and students at Upper Scioto Valley High School High School kick started the clean-up of their village Friday by working from 9 to 4 cleaning up trash along the railroad bed that runs through McGuffey.

Thanks to football coach Dustin Price and other school faculty over 40 students showed up to help according to village council member Richard Spradlin.

Spradlin shared how they worked hard all day and filled the biggest dumpster that was available.

This is what's growing in Hardin County

87,600 acres of corn • 122,500 acres of soybeans • 9,400 acres of wheat

As Hardin County farmers start to plant this year’s corn and soybeans, crop yields from the 2020 growing season have been released from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Although these crop production numbers are based on estimates, they are used for crop insurance and government reporting purposes.

According to a released report, 87,600 acres of corn were planted with 82,000 acres harvested in the county in 2020. 

Keep Hardin County Beautiful beatification project underway

Keep Hardin County Beautiful Commission is sponsoring the Courthouse
Beautification projec
t, formerly known as the “Adopt-An-Urn” project.

Persons may make a donation in honor or memory of someone special for a donation of $25 or more.  

The money received from this project helps to buy plants, potting soil, mulch, for the earth planters around the courthouse, the Liberty garden and Jackson garden.  

Keep Hardin County Beautiful also welcomes businesses to participate in the Courthouse Beautification program.

K-12 shoe voucher program

Through Hardin County Department of Job and Family Services

The Hardin County Department of Job and Family Services announced  it launched a countywide K-12 Shoe Voucher Program for eligible Hardin County families beginning Monday, May 3.

“To be eligible families must reside in Hardin County, have children enrolled in grades K-12 and be at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

For a family of four, that’s right around $53,000 a year,” saidJohn Folk, Hardin County JFS Director.

Families or children who are determined to be eligible for the program will receive a voucher for $50 per child from Job & Family Services for shoes. The vouchers can be redeemed at Shoe Sensation in Kenton.
