Ada Public Library book sale underway; next book discussion Sept. 4

The Ada Public Library's end of summer book sale is now underway. Here's how it works:

• Stuff a bag full of books for one dollar.
• VHS & DVD's - 2 for $1.00
• Magazines - 25 cents a bundle.

The sale will run through Wednesday, Sep. 5, 2012. All proceeds from the book sale benefit the library.

Join the library on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m. to discuss The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson.

An international publishing sensation,  Larsson's book combines murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue into one satisfyingly complex and entertainingly atmospheric novel.

Application for 2012 Harvest and Herb Fest' queen on The Icon

Young women interested in being the 2012 Ada Area Chamber of Commerce Harvest and Herb Festival Queen may print the application form from The Icon. It is an attachment at the bottom of this story.

The application ask three questions:

1 - If you were to support a special cause or offer to volunteer for a special organization, which would it be and why?

2 - Describe three characteristics that made you who and what you are today.

3 - What would it mean to you personally and for the Ada community to represent the 2012 Harvest and Herb Festival as Queen?

What you doin' Friday evening?

High school football and all the trimmings return to Ada Friday. Pre-sale tickets are now available as are tickets for a chicken barbecue dinner. Here are the details:

Ada students can save $2 by purchasing a ticket in advance for Friday's football season opener.

There are presale tickets available in the Ada High School office for Friday’s home varsity football game vs Hardin Northern. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. Adult tickets are $6 and student tickets are $4. All tickets at the game will be $6.

BVH Rehab and Sports Medicine offering sports injury clinicsBVH Rehab and Sports Medicine offering sports injury clinics

Blanchard Valley Rehab and Sports Medicine will offer a sports injury clinic for area athletes every Saturday from August 25 through October 27 from 8 to 9 a.m. at the BVH Rehab & Sports Medicine Center, 1721 Medical Boulevard, Suite B, Findlay.

Athletes will receive an evaluation by BVH sports medicine physician Dr. Michael Stump. Dr. Stump is sports medicine certified and the only area physician trained in computerized concussion testing.

Athletes under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No appointment is needed. For more information, call 419.425.3199.

Fight the bite protect yourself against mosquito-borne illness

Officials from the Allen County Health Department are encouraging residents to take precautions and protect themselves against mosquito-borne illness.  

The Ohio Department of Health has reported an increase in the number of mosquito pools that have tested positive for West Nile virus in the state.  In addition, reports of West Nile Disease in humans are increasing. 

Three other diseases including La Crosse encephalitis, St. Louis encephalitis and Eastern equine encephalitis can also be transmitted through the bite of a mosquito.

Ready, Set Grow Preschool open house Wednesday

Ready, Set, Grow Preschool, 4171 State Route 235, Ada, will hold an open house Wednesday, Aug. 22, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and again from 6 to 7 p.m.
