ONU will open at 10 a.m. today; essential personnel report to their shifts

Ohio Northern University will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5. Essential personnel are asked to report for their regular shifts. Administrative staff members should report and open offices at 10 a.m. King Horn and the libraries will open at 10 a.m.

Seth Miehls opens "Barbers on Main" in Ada

There’s a new barber in Ada and he’s open for business.

Seth Miehls, whose mother, Jill Epley Miehls is originally from Ada, opened Barbers on Main at 402 S. Main St., Ada, in late January.

Miehls graduated from Ron West Barber College, Dayton, in November.

“I was planning to start barbering in Lima,” he told the Icon. “Ada turned out to be a surprise. Along with his parents, he bought the 402 S. Main St. building, remodeled it and set up shop.

Seven days in January experienced a low temperature of minus zero. It's gets worse: The final 18 days of January's daily low was below freezing.

Woman Wise Mammography hosting free mammography screening day for qualifying women and men

Blanchard Valley Hospital’s Woman Wise Mammography will be offering free screening mammograms Friday, February 21 at Woman Wise located in the EasternWoods Outpatient Center, 15900 Medical Drive South, Findlay, as part of the Hancock County Mammography Screening Initiative (HCMSI).

Appointments for free mammograms will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to those who qualify. Women and men must be uninsured and meet eligibility criteria related to age, breast cancer risk and household income.

Cash Mob coming to Ada in February

A “cash mob” is coming to Ada in February.

The Buy Ada First Committee will hold the next cash mob on Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 3:00 to 5 p.m. The location will be revealed soon.

“We have been holding Cash Mobs since October 2012,” said Heather Cox, of the committee. “They have been very successful and we want to continue promoting our local businesses and the Ada community.”

What is a cash mob? A cash mob is like a flash mob, but instead of singing or dancing, cash mobbers join together to support their local economy by visiting and making purchases at a selected local business.

ONU entrepreneurship program a national finalist

Ohio Northern University was one of four finalists for a United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) Outstanding Specialty Entrepreneurship Program Award and was recognized at the USASBE annual conference in Fort Worth, Texas.

ONU made the top four from more than 50 nominations. Tammy Schakett, assistant professor of entrepreneurship at the Dicke College of Business Administration, attended the conference and nominated ONU. The three other finalists were the University of Maryland, University of Texas and University of Florida.
