Attend ONU women’s basketball game for a chance to win $75

Short on cash? You have a chance to win $75. 

Come to the Ohio Northern University women’s home basketball game on Wednesday, Feb. 19, to participate in the Pop’In Challenge.

The game is at 7:30 p.m. and is located in the King Horn Sports Center. At the game, there will be a raffle for students, parents and all fans over the age of 18 to win $75. To be entered in the raffle, all you have to do is download the free mobile app, Popmoney®. Pop in to the game for your chance to win.

Pork Producers scholarships and queen applications available

The Hardin County Pork Producers are offering six-$500 scholarships to qualified students. Scholarships will be awarded to one student from each of the six county schools.

For an application, please contact the FFA Advisor or high school guidance counselor at any of the county schools. You can also download an application from hardin.osu.edu or pick one up at the OSU Extension Office located at 1021 West Lima Street, Suite 103 in Kenton.

Bluffton Hospital recognized for excellence in lactation care

The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) have recognized Bluffton Hospital and Blanchard Valley Hospital (BVH) for excellence in lactation care.

Bluffton and BVH have received the IBCLC Care Award in recognition for staffing professionals who hold the prestigious International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification (IBCLC) and providing a lactation program that is available five to seven days a week for breastfeeding families.

ApolloPalooza Feb. 11 at Apollo Career Center

 

Apollo Career Center will hold its second ApolloPalooza on February 11, 2014, 5:30-7 p.m., to kick-off National Career and Technical Education Month. ApolloPalooza will showcase both the high school and adult education programs. The event is free and open to the public.

“Because Apollo is not a traditional high school or college, and because adults and high school students are being trained during the day and evening, Apollo is opening up the building, for the public to see and experience what Apollo students learn everyday,” said Dana Dukes-Norton, district communications manager.

How cold was it?

Not much new to report in the weather. Four of the recent five days experienced lows below zero and the temperature hasn't been above 32 for 10 days.

Those questions are answered in the new Waste Management Information Kit now available for Ada refuse and recycle customers. Copies are in the Village of Ada office. The kit lists the calendar for recycling days in 2014. It also lists items that may be recycled.
