EF1 tornado confirmed in Kenton on August 12

Public Information Statement from the National Weather Service, Wilmington OH 622 PM EDT Sat Aug 12 2023

EF1 TORNADO CONFIRMED IN KENTON...HARDIN COUNTY OHIO.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio has confirmed an EF1 tornado occurred in Kenton, Hardin County, Ohio during the early afternoon hours of today, August 12, 2023.

This conclusion stems from a damage survey that is being conducted. Maximum winds have been estimated at 90 mph.

Additional information, including tornado track data, will be made available later this evening. A final assessment, including results of the survey, are expected to be completed and transmitted via a Public Information Statement.

SR 235 detour south of Alger begins August 28

State Route 235 between County Road 130 and Township Road MD, approximately three miles south of the village of Alger, will close on Monday, August 28, for approximately five days. ­

TRAFFIC IMPACT

Detour: SR 309 to SR 67, back to SR 235 (see detour).

Busy Special Election day at the polls

The August 8 Special Election had a higher than expected turnout across the state of Ohio. The unofficial results, with a total of 3,059,440 votes cast, are a rejection of State Issue 1 “Elevating the Standards to Qualify for an Initiated Constitutional Amendment and to Pass a Constitutional Amendment.” Votes reported by the Ohio Secretary of State are:

YES - 1,315,346 - 42.99%
NO - 1,744,094 - 57.01%

Hardin County reported 5,732 votes cast as follows:

YES - 3,634
NO - 2,098    

These election results are unofficial, and properly postmarked absentee ballots received by the deadline established by state law may be counted.

Hardin Soil & Water Conservation District to hold 4-H-FFA contest

Submit topics by August 25

On Tuesday, September 5, the Hardin Soil & Water Conservation District will host a contest for 4-H members/FFA members with a conservation project. Registration starts at 10 a.m. and judging begins at 10:30 a.m. Special consideration for scheduling will be given to those participants showing livestock that morning.
