July 8 parade planned as a red, white and drive through

They called for a parade encore.

If you enjoyed the May parade at Vancrest Ada celebrating National Nursing Home Week, wait until July 8.

A Red, White and Drive Through – oh, who thinks of up these clever titles? – is set for Wednesday, July 8, similar to the May parade.

The community is invited to participate with cars, trucks, tractors, golf carts, practically anything that has wheels.  Parade line up is at 4 p.m. in the parking lot in front of Ada schools. The parade starts at 4:30 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to create signs, decorate vehicles in red, white and blue, and be prepared to honk and wave as residents will watch from  front-row seats.

Reichert's served several generations of area shoppers for 68 years

It all started in June 1952 at 206 N. Main St., Ada.

Vince Reichert opened Reichert’s Men’s Clothing Store. The new business held a formal opening on Friday, June 13, that summer. The large Ada Herald newspaper ad stated: “Favors will be given to all men and women visiting our store opening day.”

Note: The Icon thanks Jon Umphress for sharing Reichert's store-opening 1952 newspaper ad.

The Hardin County Fair board invites input of exhibitors, buyers, potential guests, campers and community members concerning this year's fair.

A survey designed to gauge stakeholders' opinions on holding a modified fair in varying degrees is linked below.

"The fair is for the youth and for the community," said Corey Ledley, Hardin County Fair board president.  "We are using this survey to get an accurate read on what the community is feeling."

While the decision to hold or not hold a fair will not be made solely on this data, it will play a role.

Ada’s downtown retail centrerpiece, Reichert’s will close later this summer, says Fred Reichert, owner, who is retiring.

Yesterday’s Icon's Facebook announcement of a 50 to 75% off everything in stock at the popular clothing store sent shivers through Ada Facebook followers.

As of 4 p.m. on Friday, the announcement reached 22,190 Facebook followers. It received 4,218 Facebook engagements, 259 shares and 74 comments from viewers.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today announced the reopening of certain facilities including certain entertainment facilities with health and safety restrictions.

“As I’ve said, Ohioans are able to do two things at once. We can continue to limit the spread of COVID-19 while we safely reopen our economy. It is up to each of us to do what we can to keep each other safe and choose to keep six feet of social distance, wear masks, and maintain good hand hygiene.” said Governor DeWine.

T&T Mobility is proposing to build a 265-foot self-supporting communications tower on the northwest side of Allen-Hancock County Line Road just north of the Lincoln Highway.

The announcement was made in a legal notice posted last week on the Bluffton and Ada Icons.
