100 families; 38,356 pounds of food

West Ohio Food Bank distribution in Ada on Sept. 10

The West Ohio Food Bank conducted a food distribution on "Hunger Action Day" on Sept. 10, on the campus of Ohio Northern University.

During the event, 100 families, most from Hardin County, were served. The West Ohio Food Bank distributed 38,356 pounds of food during the afternoon.

“September is Hunger Action Month, and the West Ohio Food Bank, an affiliate member of national organization Feeding America, continues to try to do major distributions in all 11 counties it serves throughout western Ohio,” said Jason Aldrich of the food bank.

The Ohio National Guard assisted in the distribution. 

Hog Creek Wind Project donates $5,000 to Beatitudes food pantry

Beatitudes of Ada received a $5,000 donation for its emergency food pantry on Tuesday from the Hog Creek Wind Project’s parent company EDP Renewables.

Eric Rivera, operations manager of the project, presented the check. Deb Curlis, Beatitudes manager, and several board members attended the check presentation and toured the 30-turbine project’s office located in Washington Township east of Ada.

Board members attending were Jennifer Grant, board president, Susan Hord, board secretary, David McDonald, board treasurer, and Becky Neville, board member.

Hardin agriculture hall of fame nominations accepted

One of last year's honorees was Madelyn Lowery, an ONU alumnae

Applications are being accepted for the 2020 Hardin County Agriculture Hall of Fame through Thursday, Oct. 15, according to Mark Badertscher of the Hardin extension office.

Nominees must have made their major contribution to agriculture primarily as a result of being born, growing up, living in, or working in Hardin County, Ohio.

Last year one of those honored was Madelyn Lowery, an ONU alumnae. She joined Dean and Barbara Dulin, Fred Rarey and Mark Watkins as 2019 honorees.

Hardin food distribution today in Ada

Noon to 2 p.m. at ONU football stadium

A Hardin County food distribution event takes place from noon to 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Dial-Roberson Stadium on the ONU campus, according to Jason Aldrich.

Enter on Klingler Road. To received food persons must be 18 or older, have a valid photo ID and proof of residency, be at or below 230 percent of the federal poverty guidelines and sign and eligibility to take food home form.

In July, the Ada visit resulted in the distribution of 35,900 pounds of food passed to 133 families.

Aldrich asks that participants have their trucks or truck bed cleaned out as volunteers will not move items to load food into vehicles.

Ada schools on a 2-hour delay

Ada schools are on a 2-hour fog delay (Thursday, Sept. 10). The announcement was made on Ohio Alerts at 5:39 a.m.
