One-car crash east of Kenton under investigation

The Hardin County Sheriff's Office is investigating a one-vehicle crash at Ohio 67 West near County Road 115, which left a Lima man with serious injuries early today. 

The investigation revealed that the driver Matthew Dennis Bollinger, age 24 of Lima, was traveling east on Ohio 67 when he apparently lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway and rolled over. 

6-state project focuses on Move Over violations

July 16-22 initiative responds to crashes killing and injuring civilians and officers

COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol joins forces with other members of the 6-State Trooper Project to focus on Move Over violations. The initiative began on Sunday, July 16 at 12:01 a.m. and will continue through Saturday, July 22 at 11:59 p.m.

The high-visibility enforcement initiative includes the Indiana State Police, Kentucky State Police, Michigan State Police, Pennsylvania State Police and the West Virginia State Police, as well as OSHP.

Since 2018, Ohio State Highway Patrol cruisers were struck in 61 crashes that were “Move Over” related. During that same time period, the Patrol issued 26,739 Move Over violation citations. These crashes resulted in the deaths of two civilians and 56 injuries to officers and civilians. In 2022, there were only 11 such crashes, 38 percent fewer than in 2021.

COLUMBUS–The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be highly visible and cracking down on impaired drivers during the Fourth of July holiday reporting period, which begins at 12 a.m. on Monday, July 3 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4.

Holidays impacted by 2022 Ohio fireworks law change

Want to know when you or your neighbors can discharge fireworks? Ohio law regarding fireworks changed on July 1, 2022. It is now legal to discharge 1.4G consumer fireworks on specified dates. A white paper from the state fire marshal is summarized below. The full document is HERE.

Discharge is permitted on specific days and at specific times if not banned or further restricted by a local political subdivision. Ohioans may discharge 1.4G consumer fireworks only from 4 p.m. until 11 p.m. (with specified variations) on the following dates: 

June 23 Patrol OVI checkpoint on State Route 309

LIMA–The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on June 23 on State Route 309 near mile post 17, in Allen County.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

The checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat impaired driver-related injury and fatal crashes.

Hardin County CSEA warrant amnesty week

The Hardin County Hardin County Child Support Enforcement Agency in cooperation with the Hardin County Sheriff Office is having a warrant amnesty week from June 19, 2023, through June 22, 2023.

Anyone with a warrant issued for child support can meet with a CSEA representative and have the warrant recalled at no cost.

The event began on June 19 and continues:

Tuesday, June 20 - 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Wednesday, June 21 - 9:00 -11:00 a.m.

Thursday, June 22 -2:00-4:00 p.m.
