Ada Junior High and High School Winter Guard competition season underway

Countless hours have been spent developing and practicing this year’s competition programs for the Ada Jr. High and High School Winter Guard participants.

Practices have been ongoing since Thanksgiving last year for the Ada Jr. High Winter Guard, High School Rifle Line, and High School Winter Guard groups, which are under the direction of Jonathan Lischak and Amy Webb.

New Icon feature: Introducing Ada and Hardin County 4-H members - you probably know them

Meet Dexter Woods

My name is Dexter Woods. I am 10 years old and in the fourth grade.  Last summer was my first year in 4-H. I learned a lot and had fun.

4-H has kids of all ages. My club, Liberty Belles and Boys, used Parliamentary Procedure to make the meetings run smoothly. Everyone had to do a demonstration. Mine was on tying knots for fishing.  We also played games and had snacks at every meeting.

In July I went to 4-H camp at Camp Ohio. I got up early every morning to do the Polar Bear Swim, and I won a certificate.

Other activities at camp included creeking, dancing, archery and trivia. One night there was a campfire.

Jamie Wills: A passion for scrapbooking

By Darlene Bowers

Three baskets sit atop the refrigerator. Jamie Wills of Ada sits nearby and lays out the process;  one basket for each of her children - Mackenzie, Miranda and Macormick. Each basket temporarily holds mementos, school papers, library story-time keepsakes, ticket stubs, treasures from her family’s everyday life. The contents are then revisited piece by piece at year’s end relishing each and deciding which to include in memory albums (scrapbooks).

15 minutes with Brittney: Maybe she'll be a vet in Ada some day

The weather and school cancellations kept The Icon from talking with Ada High School students in January. We were finally able to get back on track this week. We caught up with Brittney Archer recently in study hall. Here’s part of our conversation.

You are a senior this year at Ada High School. What is your school schedule?
Brittney: Communication, Sociology, Calculus, then two study halls in row, English College Prep, Physics and Anatomy.

Third graders catch a falling snowflake

Ada third graders recently created drawings showing how to catch falling snow. It's simply. Just go outside and open your mouth.

These photos are in the Ada elementary office. Click on the photos below for more artistic snow experiences.
