Hootenannies have new sign for fair

The Hardin County Hootenannies 4-H Club members are excited about the new sign they have designed for the fair this year.

They wish to thank the wonderful artist Sara Hoenshel for painting the 4 different breeds of goats on the 4-H clover in the center and also advisor Grant Mizek  for all his work on the sign.

They hope you will come and see it in person and watch the goat show next Tuesday in the goat tent starting at 9 a.m.

Hootenannies 4-H Club gearing up for the fair

The Hardin Co. Hootenannies are gearing up for the fair. Our last meeting was held at Megan Williams farm when we got our entry forms filled out to turn in to show at the fair. President Megan opened the meeting and asked Landyn Hijma to lead the American pledge and Sean Hurley to lead us in the 4-H pledge.

Parent Amy Williams is making plans for the fair booth and will let us know what we will need for it at our next meeting. Parent Ernie Davis announced if anyone wanted another t-shirt or an extra for a parent, they could still order them soon for the fair.

Rotary reps have “marvelous time” in Australia

“A marvelous time!”

That’s how Ada Rotarian Bill Trudeau and daughter Keli, an Ada eighth grader, described their recent trip to Australia, where they attended the Rotary International Convention.

After the convention in Sydney, Bill and Keli journeyed on to Melbourne before flying home. Keli took advantage of the opportunity to visit four Australian universities, no doubt dreaming of adventures that might lie ahead.

The Trudeaus presented a program on the convention and sightseeing in Australia at the recent Ada Rotary meeting.

4-H state fair competition: Just one of Libbie Milks' interests

By Darlene Bowers
Over 915,000 people passed through the gates of this year’s Ohio State Fair according to The Columbus Dispatch. One Ada family was among the first day’s visitors.

Libbie Milks, with parents Beth and Mike in tow, participated in the Ohio State Junior Fair 4-H Non-Livestock Health Day. Libbie attended the fair to present her 4-H project, The Truth About Tobacco. “I used this as a follow up project from last year when I completed Drug and Alcohol Abuse,” Libbie says.

This is Libbie’s seventh year in 4-H. She has been a member of Liberty Belles and Boys 4-H Club for all seven years.

Swim at your own risk - pond infested with Golden Retrievers?

As the sign warns: "Swim at your own risk!"

It's doesn't mention why, however.

Could it be because the pond is infested with Golden Retrievers?

The two dogs, having a good time, are in Monty Siekerman's pond north of town. That's Caesar (Monty's Retriever) with Luke, who is holding a ball it its mouth. Luke is Harry Wilson's Retriever.

Hootenannies 4-H Club focusing on county fair

By Faith Holbrook, reporter

The last meeting of the Hardin Co. Hootenannies was at Meadow and Callie Cromer’s farm. President Megan Williams opened and asked Levi Beiler to lead the American Pledge and Laura Spradlin to lead the 4-H Pledge.  There were 12 members present, many parents and one special guest.

Everyone was reminded about livestock judging and asked if they needed any last minute help.  It is important to have your books completed.

Our sign for the fair is closer to being done.  Different goats are being painted on the 4-H clover.  The wonderful artist, Sara Hoenshel, who is going to be painting them, was there to meet us.
