Ada area delegates to attend 2022 Buckeye Boys and Girls State programs

Ada American Legion Post 185 selected five candidates

Ada American Legion Post 185 has selected five area high school juniors to attend Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State programs for 2022.  

Buckeye Boys State delegates are 

  • Abraham Decker, Upper Scioto Valley
  • Brendan Jameson, Ada High School
  • Leif Trachsel, Hardin Northern

Buckeye Girls State delegates are

Ada area students named to ONU Dean's list

The following students from the Ada, Dola and McGuffey area were named to the Dean’s List for spring semester 2022 at Ohio Northern University. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must attain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and be enrolled full time.

Boots and Buckles 4-H report

Meeting was called to order by President Chloe Anderson. Club said the Pledge of Allegiance led by Wyatt James and the 4-H pledge led by Callie Schwemer. 

Next was roll call with answering “What is your favorite project?” 

The minutes from the last meeting were read by secretary Josie Schwemer. Treasurer’s report was then given by treasure Issac Anderson.

Old business: Stall signs. For anyone who wants to buy an extra sign, they are $10 each.

New Business and Demonstrations:

Hailey Robirds receives Liberty National Bank scholarship

Liberty National Bank offered three $1,000 scholarship opportunities to local students that completed the Liberty National Bank Financial Literacy Program. Hailey Robirds, daughter of Amanda Robirds and Brenda Welch, a graduating senior from Ada High School received one of these scholarships. Hailey will be attending Ohio Northern University this fall studying Pharmacy.

Thirty-six students within Hardin, Logan and Union counties submitted applications for the Liberty National Bank My Money Matters scholarship.

Blocking sled donated to AHS by football teams of '71-'72-'73

A new football blocking sled was recently donated and dedicated at Ada High School.

The sled was purchased with funds donated by the football teams of 1971, 1972 and 1973. Funds were collected after the 50th year reunion of the 1971 team that took place in October 2021. More than $5,000 was raised.

The sled has a plaque attached stating that the donation was made in honor of Head Coach Gary Ricker and reads "combined record 27-2."

On June 4, Coach Ricker and Assistant Coach Roger Bartley returned to Ada to attend the dedication of the sled.

Karen and Bob Ward celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

Karen and Bob Ward of Ada celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren on Saturday, June 4. 

Karen and Bob Ward were married on June 6, 1972 in Rolla, Missouri, Karen's hometown. At that time, their wedding reception was also held in her back yard with cake, punch, relatives and friends.
