A benefit with all the trimmings - for Lisa

What do you get when you cross a lawnmower with a bicycle?

You get the Rat Trap, as inventor Charles Clemons of Alger affectionately calls his contraption.

The bike/mower took two years to build. He finished the vehicle just in time for the Memorial Day parade in Alger this year.

The Rat Trap is  mower with a 20 horsepower Briggs & Stratton mower welded to a bicycle frame. It has dual exhaust, stereo and lights.

Sandy Neely updates Kiwanis on Ada's Learn-To-Swim Program

Sandy Neely, Ada Red Cross water safety instructor, updated the Ada Kiwanis Club about this summer's swim lesson program in Ada during the Kiwanis recent meeting.

"As in past years the Ada Learn-To Swim-Program is in need of aides to assist with the lessons," she told the Kiwanis members.

"Ages 12 and up, including adults are encouraged to sign up to help others learn swimming skills. As little as an hour each day of lessons is helpful," she added. "Lessons begin the week of July 11 for two weeks and continue Monday through Friday each week. Help is needed on deck for paperwork as well as in the water."

Lisa Lamaster: "The power of prayer got me through it"

A benefit was held for Lisa Lamaster on Sunday afternoon at Affinity Hall on the ONU campus. Lisa has been through a lot with heart and cancer operations the past couple of years.

She has survived and thrived as she said, "The power of prayer got me through it."
She is back to work as a cook in McIntosh Center cafeteria, and she is grateful. "I love to cook," she said.

She and her husband, Don, are the parents of three adult children, Chris, Ashley, and Jamie as well as four grandchildren.

Lisa attended the benefit. Here, she gets her nails done.

15 minutes with two metal detectors in the Ada park

There's gold in them thar hills, or so Tom and Rene Harmon would hope. The Elida couple was seeing what they could find at War Memorial Park recently.

What have you found with the metal detectors?
Over the years, we've found some jewelry, old coins, a Boy Scout metal from Utah, a challenge metal from someone in the service, but mostly junk. Its a hobby, were not in it to make money. The rate of return per hour would be minimal. It's fun, you never know what you'll find
