University wraps up gifts for 170 area children this Christmas

Since 1990, members of the Ohio Northern University Support Staff Association have helped give names of area children in need to ONU staff, faculty and organizations.

This year the University helped 170 children.

The toys and clothing are distributed by Helping Hands Outreach Ministries in Kenton.

It was a night of Christmas music

The Ada Schools winter concert featured many bands and choirs on Monday evening in the school auditorium. It was SRO in the auditorium with the overflow crowd of family and friends waiting in the cafeteria until their student was on stage.

Here, the fifth grade band leads off the concert with "Old King Wenceslas," "Jolly Old St. Nicholas," and "Jingle Bells."

The 5th, 6th, 7/8th and High School Bands performed, as well as 6th, 7/8th, Concert Choir, and Varsity Singers.

The Ada Kiwanis and the Ada Rotary Clubs met together on Dec. 13 at Community Health Professionals for their annual Christmas luncheon/auction.

Ada Kiwanis President Tom Kier welcomed all members and guests and thanked them for joining in the annual pre-Christmas tradition.

In brief Kiwanis business, Secretary Bill Fuller presented Perfect Attendance awards to Ada Kiwanians for the 2015-2016 administrative year.

Four residents graduate from Tree Academy

Ada now has 14 residents who have graduted from the course

Four Ada residents completed a Tree Academy course and received certificate of bachelor at the Ada Depot on Wednesday.

Completing the course were (from left) Jamie Hall, Cheryl Greer, Jim Neiswander, and Rob Mix. The course is sponsored by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources division of forestry.

Fourteen local residents, mostly members of the tree commission, have now completed the course which includes information about tree care, urban forestry, local government, public relations and other topics.

A lunch preceded the graduation ceremony at the depot.

Pharmacy students and Vancrest residents "have a party"

Pharmacy students brightened the day for residents of Vancrest on Tuesday when they brought Christmas presents to a party that included Santa, carol singing, and refreshments.

Students from the pharmacy organization American Society of Consultant Pharmacists put together Christmas gifts for all 46 residents of Vancrest, those in assisted living and those in the nursing home area.
