A Beatitudes Thanksgiving

The Beatitudes Belles set a beautiful Thanksgiving table for more than 35 and prepared an eat-in or take-out feast for some 150 diners on Tuesday, November 22. The free meal was open to all with an RSVP. 

The community center at 210 N. Main St. was filled with the delicious scent of turkey, gravy, dressing, etc., etc. Stacks of desserts were hidden in styrofoam containers. We can only imagine the pots and pans to be washed.

New faculty at Ohio Northern, part 1

The Icon recently reported on the Ada Town & Gown banquet, where new Ada community leaders were introduced. In collaboration with Ohio Northern's Office of Communication & Marketing, we are also introducing new faculty members. This is the first of several installments.

Dalia Abdelhamid is an Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry. She comes to the Raabe College from Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, British Columbia, where she was a research scientist and chemistry instructor, having previously taught as a member of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Minia University in Egypt.

Brian Smith to retire from Bon Secours Mercy Health

CINCINNATI--Brian Smith, Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH) president, announced today that he will retire December 31, 2022, after more than three decades of Mission-focused, operational excellence.

Smith joined the Human Resources (HR) department at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima in 1990, focused on making St. Rita’s a place where associates would want to work and providers would want to practice. He served in a variety of HR roles over his 22 years at St. Rita’s, before moving into hospital operations.

Music feast in numbers and pictures

The November 12 Music Feast show choir competition hosted by the Ada Schools drew over 450 performers and an estimated 1,000 people at the school for the event.

Seating was also highly competitive as family and friends gathered to enjoy the performances. 

Scott Henning, director of Ada’s Varsity Singers, reports that Piqua's "The Company" was awarded grand champion at the end of the night followed by ETC'S all girl group, "Rouge." Second runner up was ETC's "All Americans."

HARDIN COUNTY–The Hardin County Agriculture Hall of Fame has announced the 2022 honorees to be inducted at the nineteenth annual Agriculture Hall of Fame recognition banquet. The 2022 inductees include: Gerald E. Althauser, J. Roger Crates, William Griffith, Dr. William Martin Miller, and Thomas E. Wilcox, Sr. The banquet will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6 at St. John's Evangelical Church on East Carrol Street in Kenton.

Delayed Artemis I takes flight

Remember our excitement about NASA's Artemis I project and the involvement of ONU Engineering graduates? The September launch was scrapped due to Hurricane Ian.

On November 16 the Moon-orbiting program had a successful launch of the first spaceflight in NASA's Artemis program. It is the first integrated flight test of the Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System.
