Blanchard Pleasant Buckeyes 4H meeting held

The Blanchard Pleasant Buckeyes met on July 9, in the Hardin Northern Ag Building.  Due to recreation leaders Makenna Eibling and Heidi Trachsel not being present there was no recreation for the night.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Becca Allen and the 4-H pledge was led by Emori Criner.  There were 20 members present, 8 guests, and 5 advisors.  Members taking still projects can now make their judging appointments.  The progress made in project books were also checked by advisors.  Project presentations were also given by Jonah Ruhlen with woodworking and rabbits, Vern Woodruff with a series circuit demonstration for electricity, Mary Ann Woodruff with Ohio Birds, and Carl Woodruff

Curlis garden on weekend garden club tour

For those interested in beauty or gardening, the Curlis property is a must-see.

What do these words describe? Cutting, shoe, fairy, tea, recycle, herbs, memory, annual, perennial. They are types of gardens, all of which are found at the home of Deb and Van Curlis whose two-acre spread will be part of the Findlay Garden Club’s 2018 garden tour this coming weekend.

Deb, who is the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce director, and her husband, Van, a homebuilder, live on the southeast side of McComb. (Directions to their home are found later in this article.)

Garden tour hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 14 and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, July 15.

Blanchard Pleasant Buckeyes held a 4-H meeting

The Blanchard Pleasant Buckeyes held a 4-H meeting on June 18th in the Hardin Northern Ag Building.  Recreation for the night was Chicken Pick by Makenna Eibling.  The meeting was lead by Rylee Bame.  The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Mary Ann Woodruff and the 4-H Pledge by Casey Clem.  There were 32 members present, 3 guests, and 9 advisers.  Discussed at the meeting was the chip factory field trip time and day.  All livestock and still projects were discussed on progress and where they were expected to be by next meeting.  4-H clover sheets were also turned in.  Trivia was given by Preston Wykes and Wesley Newton.  The meeting was adjourned by Wesley Newton and seconded by Heidi Trac

The shelter is also the place to contact for giving up a dog, if you find a lost or stray dog, or if you come in contact with a vicious dog. It costs $20 to surrender a dog, which pays for deworming and immunizations for when it is rescued.

Lee Carpenter's chance meeting with Gen. MacArthur

His "brush with history" in his own words

Lee Carpenter served his country from 1942-1945 in the US Army, 983rd Field Artillery Battalion in the South Pacific.

Lee and his late wife, Martha, lived in Dunkirk for 30 years. Once retired, Lee moved to Bucyrus. At the age of 95, he bought a house in Ada near his daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Rick Crace.

Lee has worked in many areas and traveled the U.S. selling his own invention.  He invented a belt-tightener which is used in elevators, on conveyors and other pieces of equipment.

Here's his story in his own words:
