Ada resident Andrew Ward of 540 E. Lincoln Ave., earned deserved recognition on Tuesday by the Village of Ada and Ada Police Department.

The letter to Ward is attached at the bottom of this story -

Michael Harnishfeger, police chief, presented Ward with an Ada Police Department S.A.F.E.R Award (Seeking Aid From Every Resident) during Aug. 6 Ada council meeting.

According to Harnishfeger, Andrew’s willingness to get involved and assist the police makes Ada a safer and more secure community.

Jordyn and Camryn Smith have great success at state fair

Sisters, Jordyn and Camryn Smith, had great success at the Ohio State Fair.

Jordyn, an Ada 6th grader and member of Troop 20314 from Ada, (Cadette), received the following awards:
• Gold Medal (for the second year) in the Public Speaking Competition
• Silver Medal in the Design Challenge Competition
• Bronze Medal in the Duct Tape Competition
• First Place Ribbon in Robotics
• Second Place Ribbon in Community Service Project
• Third Place Ribbon in Historic Sites, People, Tours Project

Alyssa Nau an "Outstanding of the Day" and "Clock Trophy" winner

Alyssa Nau, a 6th grader at Ada, received an Outstanding of the Day and the Clock Trophy for her project Star Spangled Foods at the Ohio State Fair. Alyssa is a member of Buttons and Bows 4-H Club in Hancock County.

Alyssa is a second-year member of the 4-H club. She has shown registered Shropshire sheep at state fair and the Hancock County Fair.

In addition to her awards this year at the state fair, she received first place for her project Star Spangled Foods at the Hancock County nutrition judging.

Alyssa is an Ada midget varsity cheerleader, is also active in Girl Scouts and attends the First United Methodist Church, Ada.

ONU senior stuffs a coaster and faces the Forbidden Frontier

When Good Morning America arrived at Cedar Point Amusement Park for a feature on Steel Vengeance, Crystal Amberlyn found the “talent” needed to fill the giant coaster’s seats. 

The Ohio Northern University senior runs interference for media, heads up the in-house Snapchat account and does what’s needed for Cedar Point to put its best foot forward.

“I remember my first day on the job,” recalled Crystal.  “I was thrown into a video shoot for the new Forbidden Frontier on Adventure Island.  I learned to do what’s needed in order to make things run smoothly. Many times it’s behind the scenes.”

Ada cheerleaders ready for '19-20

Outstanding awards for Ada cheerleaders at UCA Cheer Camp

Ada High School and Junior High cheerleaders brought back lots of awards from a recent four-day UCA Cheer Camp held at Ohio Northern University, according to Bridgette Jones. Awards follow:

High School: 
• Second place trophy in sideline cheer, (in the large varsity division)
• Superior ribbon for earning all blue ribbons each day
• Top Banana award for the squad with the most school spirit, along with spirit sticks each day

• As an entire school, high school and junior high, won the Leadership Award, a  first for Ada.
