The juggernaut that is the Ada High School quiz bowl team rolled to impressive wins in its first two tournaments of the year.
In winning its first-ever Whiz Quiz competition, held annually at WTLW-TV in Lima, Ada advanced to the semi finals by knocking off Patrick Henry and Elmwood.
In the second night of taping, Ada beat Crestview and Riverdale to capture the crown. The competition will be aired on WTLW in February and March.
In NWC competition held at Ada, the Bulldogs rolled to an 8-0 tournament record in racking up its third consecutive Northwest Conference crown. The wins also give Ada a current 24-match winning streak over the past three years.
Long-time Ada resident Harold Barker celebrates his 90th birthday on Monday, Nov. 11. His daughter, Linda Meyer, invites Icon viewers to participate in a card shower for him. Send cards to: Harold Barker, 3108 Klingler Road, Ada, OH 45810.
Theo Hardesty is the Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative Ada High School student of the month. The Icon took that opportunity to have the following 15-minute interview with him.
What’s your school schedule this semester? Theo: Communications, Economics, Physics, Intro to Literature, Statistics, Conspiracy Theory, study hall and band. I take statistics for pharmacy at ONU. Next term I’ll take Introduction to Film in place of Intro to Lit.
What instrument do you play?
Theo: Trumpet. I tried percussion and clarinet, but really found the trumpet to be my instrument.
It was a captive audience of young and long-time Ada residents, all dressed up for a party.
Behind the police station, of all places. Of course, that only means it's the line up for the annual Ada Kiwanis Club Halloween parade.
The Icon loves captive moments like this one. We meet lots of interesting folk. There was a unicorn, one of the Blues Brothers, the entire Addams family and Bat Girl.
Can you believe that there were even two Cousin Its? We photographed one and it asked: "Should I smile?" (Think about it.)
