Answering those taxing questions

ONU’s VITA program offering socially distanced income tax filing assistance

Ohio Northern University’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is again offering free, socially distanced income tax preparation for community members who make $57,000 or less annually.

In turn, this service enables ONU’s Dicke College of Business Administration students to receive practical training with tax preparation software and interpersonal communication, and to become IRS-certified to help prepare basic and intermediate tax returns.

Students also gain experience in identifying and helping clients claim special credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly, which can significantly influence filing outcomes.

When Americans roll up their sleeves in the coming months to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, there is a good chance that a pharmacist will be the health care professional to administer it.

In recent years, more and more states have granted approval for pharmacists to administer some of the most common vaccines in retail pharmacy settings.

A recent survey of retail pharmacists by the American Pharmacist Association revealed that 74 percent of those surveyed are willing to order and administer the COVID-19 vaccine.

The statement, dated Tuesday, Jan. 12, calls the insurrection “an assault on our democracy and the rule of law” and maintains that, despite their diversity in political viewpoints, this “is such a moment” that called for law deans to “speak as one.”

ONU to commemorate MLK Day with weeklong events

Virtual MLK Chapel at 11 a.m., Thursday

Ohio Northern University’s upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day and February Black History Month recognitions intend to serve as informative, inclusive and inspiring responses to the most recent political and racial upheaval that has galvanized the nation.

Dr. King’s iconic “The Hammer of Justice” speech, delivered Jan. 11, 1968, on ONU’s campus just three months prior to his assassination, has since served as an institutional touchstone for guidance and action. It now carries additional contemporary relevance, as the following quotes illustrate:
