In three years of engineering courses at Ohio Northern University, Anne Major’s professors continually stressed the importance of seeing things firsthand.
And then, one pleasant fall evening her senior year, sitting on a lawn chair in the middle of a farm field watching chickens enter a coop at sunset, Major got it. Because, quite frankly, the chickens weren’t behaving at all how she’d expected.
“He’s my best friend,” David said of Michael. “I would’ve never imagined that after I chased him with a Nerf gun and knocked the door hinges off, we’d be helping each other years later to do our jobs during a pandemic.”

Athletics and pharmacy typically aren’t entities that converge. Peanut butter and jelly? Yes. Stevie Ray Vaughan and a Fender Stratocaster? Indelibly. Nerf guns and brothers?
Absolutely, which actually brings us back to that seemingly incongruous athletics/pharmacy concept.
“Being from two completely different professions, it takes a lot of stars to align for our worlds to cross, but that’s what happened,” said Ohio Northern University alumnae and professor Michael Rush, PharmD ’05, referencing his brother, David Rush, BSSM ’11, assistant athletics director for Kent State University.
One individual with a transformative academic vision began what has become a singular and successful collective pursuit to positively change the world.
One hundred and fifty years later, Ohio Northern University is now celebrating its founding with a year-long sesquicentennial celebration focusing on the past, present and future.
The Polar Bear community invites everyone to participate in events that will feature music, art, food, fun, nostalgic activities and forward-thinking interaction for all ages.

Ohio Northern University will host the 9th annual Ohio Pharmacy Resident Conference, to be held virtually on Friday, May 21.
The event, which allows pharmacy residents to present their research in a structured, juried environment, represents one of only a handful of regional residency conferences held throughout the United States.
The event is hosted each year by ONU’s Raabe College of Pharmacy.
The conference’s presentation schedule reflects the wide diversity of pharmacy practice, the positive impact on the population, and the profession’s innovative nature.
