Ohio Northern University

I am in the Dominican Republic for my fourth visit.

We had a bit of a challenge getting here Friday – a mechanical issue with the plane delayed us for five hours – but we received a $100 voucher toward future travel and $6 to buy lunch so not a bad deal.  And given that there was a huge tropical depression sitting over the Dominican Republic and a lot of rain, we didn't miss much.  No real beach-time was sacrificed!

The Washington Center (TWC) for Internships and Academic Programs, an organization that provides college students with the opportunity to work and learn in the nation’s capital, has named Ohio Northern University as its Private University of the Year.

Students in the Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy have formed a student chapter of the Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC). More than 100 students comprise the newly formed group.

The purpose of this ONU student PMC chapter is to foster the development and awareness of personalized medicine both educationally and professionally. The organization consists of six sections based on the PMC document “The Case for Personalized Medicine”: technology, regulatory policy, payment, health information technology, genetic non-discrimination and medical education.

The Ohio Northern University Office of Alumni Affairs will hold the 12th annual Robby Golf Classic at Colonial Golfers Club in Harrod, on Sunday, June 3, at noon.

In its 12th year, the Robby Classic is a fundraiser for The Robby Scholarship Fund, named for William Robinson, a 1961 graduate of Ohio Northern who has spent more than 50 years with the University.

A team of students from Ohio Northern University’s Smull College of Engineering competed in the Lockheed Martin / Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Aero Design 2012 competition, hosted by Georgia Model Aviators. Northern’s team finished 22nd out of 40 squads in its class during the competition, which was staged in conjunction with the SAE Aero Design East 2012 event in Cumming, Ga., April 27-29.

For the competition, each team must design, build and fly a radio-controlled model airplane that is able to take off, fly successfully and land with a payload on board. The payload is increased between flight rounds to see which team is able to lift the most weight.
