ONU’s ‘Polaris’ offers undergraduates practical publishing skills, creative victories

Ohio Northern University’s literary magazine, Polaris, remains focused on the act of transportation. Not of the physical kind, but of the emotional and imaginative transporting we do when we experience something exceptionally creative. For 65 years, each volume has offered numerous excursions to the unknown while also providing valuable hands-on learning for the students who annually produce it.

When England’s Queen Elizabeth II died in September, 2022, Ohio Northern University English Professor Lisa Robeson was fascinated by what happened next.

“I was glued to the BBC for a week!” she admitted. And for good reason – Robeson, after all, researches and teaches Arthurian, Medieval and Renaissance literature and its intersection with politics.

The first drive-in gas station—a social hub with a diversified retail model that offered amenities such as free air and water, tire installation and the nation’s first commercial roadmaps—opened in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1913.

Ohio Northern University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts will present its grand finale to the 2022-23 theatre season with The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy. Made possible with underwriting from Quest Federal Credit Union and the Committee on Cultural and Special Events, performances are slated for April 27-29 at 7:30 p.m. and April 29 and 30 at 2 p.m. at the Freed Center for the Performing Arts.

BOTKINS–The visiting Ada High School softball team defeated Botkins in an 18-13 slugfest Saturday afternoon, April 15.

The Bulldog softball record improved to 12-1 after the non-league win. It was the sixth game in six days for Ada, which went 5-1 during the long week.
