ONU cheerleaders, coaches offer cheerleading clinic Oct. 11

The Ohio Northern University cheerleaders and their coaches will hold a cheerleading clinic from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at McIntosh Center on the ONU campus.
Participants in the clinic will perform during the first quarter of the ONU vs. Mount Union football game.

The clinic is open to those in kindergarten through grade 12. Participants will be divided into mini squads by age. Those with previous experience in stunting and tumbling will be placed in appropriate mini squads -- not necessarily by age – by the ONU coaches.

University presents Oct. 8 forum on ‘Crisis: Freshwater in Northwest Ohio’

Ohio Northern University’s Phi Beta Delta honor society for international scholars and the ONU chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon, an international honor society in geography, presents “Crisis: Freshwater in Northwest Ohio” in the Dicke Forum on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

A three-member panel will discuss the latest crisis of freshwater that occurred this past summer in Toledo and dissect what occurred and the ramifications of the crisis. The water problem was a result of toxins contaminating the water supply to approximate 400,000 residents in northwest Ohio.

Ohio Northern University to induct six into ONU Athletic Hall of Fame

Six members of the Ohio Northern University athletic family will be inducted into the University’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 3, as part of ONU’s Homecoming weekend. 

They will be inducted that Friday during a banquet in Ohio Northern’s McIntosh Center at 6:30 p.m. and introduced Saturday, Oct. 3, before the ONU football game at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

University presents faculty recital, special guest featuring chamber music

The Ohio Northern University Department of Music presents an evening of chamber music in the Snyder Recital Hall in the Presser Building on Monday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The program will feature Paul Moravec’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Tempest Fantasy for clarinet, violin, cello and piano.

ONU faculty clarinetist Georg Klaas and colleagues will perform a program of 20th- and 21st-entury chamber music. The program will feature Pamela Ashmore, lecturer in the ONU music department, on piano; Rachel Pinkney, lecturer in the ONU music department, on cello; and special guest violinist from the Toledo Symphony, Merwin Siu.

University to observe Constitution Day with ‘Making Constitutional Law Today’

Ohio Northern University will observe Constitution Day with a presentation from prominent labor and employment attorney Gary Lofland in the Pettit College of Law’s Celebrezze Moot Court Room on Thursday, Sept. 25, at noon. The event is free and open to the public.
 

The Freed Center presents ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present “The Importance of Being Earnest” from Sept. 25-27 at 7:30 p.m. There also will be two matinee performances on Sept. 27 and 28 at 2 p.m.

Oscar Wilde’s masterpiece “The Importance of Being Earnest” focuses on two bachelor friends, upper-crust dandy Algernon Moncrieff and the most reliable John Worthing J.P., who lead double lives to court the attentions of the desirable Gwendolyn Fairfax and Cecily Cardew. The gallants must then grapple with the uproarious consequences of their ruse and with the formidable Lady Bracknell.
