Pharmacy professor elected to International Pharmaceutical Federation’s executive committee

Dr. Jenelle Sobotka, Ohio Northern University professor and endowed chair of pharmacy practice, was elected to the International Pharmaceutical Federation’s (FIP) executive committee in the Academic Pharmacy Section (AcPS).

Committee members on the FIP AcPS work together to plan activities, provide education and share information that will be valuable to advancing pharmacy education around the globe. The Committee consists of members involved in all aspects of pharmacy education (practice, sciences, management, etc.).

In addition to the U.S., the newly elected executive committee consists of members from Australia, Japan, the UK, Zambia and South Africa.

Pack Away Hunger event Sunday at ONU - you can assist

Ohio Northern will be hosting a Pack Away Hunger event from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24.

This event will pack meals for impoverished children and their families. Consider giving your time if you are a current ONU student, staff or faculty member.

Pack Away Hunger is a non-profit organization dedicated to greatly improving the lives of children and others who suffer from hunger and malnutrition.

The lack of proper nutrition creates serious health and developmental consequences for individuals and has far reaching implications for communities. 

Jason Bishop illusionist on Freed Center stage Jan. 23

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present “The Jason Bishop Show” on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 4 p.m.

Bishop is an international award-winning illusionist who was the youngest person to win the Magician’s Alliance of Eastern States Stage Award and one of the youngest people to compete in the Society of American Magicians World-Class competition.

Pharmacy professor honored with New Investigator Award

Dr. Manoranjan D’Souza, an assistant professor of pharmacology pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences in the Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University, is among 14 recipients of New Investigator Awards announced by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) on Jan. 14.

His research project, “Brain kappa opioid receptors and aversive effects of nicotine,” investigates the role of kappa opioid receptors in specific brain regions, thus advancing the understanding of the neural circuitry mediating the aversive effects of nicotine and providing a novel target for future smoking-cessation medications.

University to host Jan. 24 meal-packing event to assist food banks

Ohio Northern University will host a meal-packing event to assemble meals for malnourished children in Haiti and the West Ohio Food Bank in the ONU Field House on Sunday, Jan. 24, from 1-3 p.m.

Approximately 150 students, faculty and staff will gather at the Field House to pack 40,000 Nutri-Plenty Meals, a highly nutritious blend of rice, soy, vegetables, vitamins and minerals. Seventy-five percent of the meals will be transported to Haiti; the remaining 25 percent will go to the West Ohio Food Bank.
