Brother2Brother assists one another

The motto of Brother2Brother is "Good men today, better men tomorrow." The ONU organization is a sub-branch of the Student African-American Brotherhood on campus. The group strives to increase the retention rate among students of color and non-students of color by making sure each member has a support system away from home. The group also prides itself on being an advocate in the community.

Auction on tap to help less fortunate

The College of Law will host its 23rd annual Public Interest Auction at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 31 in law building. The auction includes a range of goods and entertainment offerings.

Among items that have already been donated are golf outings, paintball tickets, gift certificates for area restaurants, gift packages, bowling and other entertainment packages, overnight hotel stays, Columbus Clippers and Cleveland Browns tickets and a Kindle Fire.

Over 75 items on the ONU College of Law auction block

If you love auctions, you won’t want to miss this one. As of Monday afternoon there were nearly 75 items on the auction block.

The Ohio Northern University Law College public interest auction is from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 31 in the Large Moot Courtroom.

The event, open to the publicl, includes a buffet sandwich bar and a silent auction starting at 5 p.m. The live auction begins at 6 p.m.

Proceeds from the auction provide scholarships to help with expenses of qualified students working in unpaid public interest legal positions over the summer.

Mendez to discuss torture in US and world

Globally recognized human rights expert Juan E. Mendez will discuss “The status of torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment in the United States and world today” at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 31 in the business college. The talk is free and open to the public.

A native of Argentina, Mendez was recently named by the International Center for Transitional Justice (ITCJ) as a delegate to the Colombian Selection Committee.

An ONU multicultural fair provided fun, flags and flavors for the 300 people who attended the event in King-Horn on Friday night.

There was music, dancing, a cacophony of sounds plus flags from the many nations represented in the student body as well as foods made with recipes from around the world.

Here, Nigerian students Abeni Abalogun and Ore Omitowoju kick up their heels to the beat of African music. They described the culture of their native country to those who stopped by their table.

40th annual Law Review Symposium

Attorneys from several states and ONU law students attended the 40th annual Law Review Symposium on Friday at the law school.

Pictured are (from left) Eric Ambos, editor-in-chief of the Law Review; Jeff Schulman, local attorney; and Khaled Beydoun, who is associated with law schools in Michigan and California.

As head of the Law Review, Ambos has one of the highest positions available to a student in a law school. Schulman is a former mayor of Ada. Beydoun discussed executive orders banning some Muslims from the U.S.
