ONU senior Leah Casey won the Bruce Chesser Award for ceramics at this year's ArtSpace/Lima annual juried exhibit. The award is named in honor of Prof. Chesser, retired faculty member who specializes in ceramics.

Leah, originally from Seville, Ohio, is pursing a B.F.A. degree in studio arts with a 3D concentration, an option in art therapy, and a B.S. degree in psychology. She is a member of the Arts and Sciences Student Advisory Council and president of the Kappa Pi art honorary.

Dr. Yoder, chair of the mechanical engineering department, has been appointed dean of the ONU engineering college.

Dr. Baumgartner, who has served as dean for the past 11 years, has accepted a position as vice president of academics at the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

Instrumental "petting zoo" on tap

ONU will host an interactive family music concert in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 6. The event will be preceded by an “instrument petting zoo” at 2:30 p.m. in the Freed Center lobby. Tickets are $10 per family and $5 for individuals. 

The concert activities have been designed for preschool through early-elementary students, but entire families are welcome. Audience members will sing, move and listen to the music of Beethoven while learning about the instruments and exploring musical elements.

Festival of Colors - looks like fun

The ONU  Indian Student Association held a springtime Holi Festival on the Tundra on Sunday afternoon. It's a Festival of Colors.

Holi is a Hindu festival that signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, and the end of winter. During the festival, participants play, chase, and color each other with dry powder.

It is a time for people to play, laugh, and enjoy each other's company. Indian Student Association is an organization that promotes education and participation in the Indian culture.
 

Why is Steve White a proud Polar Bear?

Steve White received his BSBA degree for the Class of 2017. He was a student in the late 1960s but was unable to graduate being short credit hours in 1971. Fast forward 46 years and he is officially a graduate and forever a proud Polar Bear.

ONU students win awards

ONU students continue to distinguish themselves through their academic and creative exploits. Students recently earned honors in accounting and finance, mathematics, and poetry. 

The team of Matthew Golden, Zack Goodchild and Takumi Kijima won the 2017 Ohio Mathematical Association of America Student Team Competition. 

Meanwhile, ONU’s team placed first in the Beta Alpha Psi team competition during the business group’s Midwest Regional Meeting in Indianapolis. 

Also, student Rachel Cruea earned an outstanding poetry award at the annual conference of Sigma Tau Delta national English honorary.
