Ohio Northern was once again the destination for about 300 riders participating in the 15th annual Young's Ice Cream Charity Bike Tour. The tour has raised more than $1 million during the past 14 years for various charities.
The two-day event began Saturday morning in Yellow Springs with an overnight at ONU's Affinity Village, then a return ride to Yellow Springs set for Sunday. The round trip is 165 miles--good exercise for a good purpose.
ONU is hosting Camp GEMS for 66 girls in engineering, math, and science. Here, Dr. Julie Hurtig, associate vice president of academic affairs, demonstrates electrical engineering principles through telegraph building.
Dr. Adriane Thompson-Bradshaw, ONU vice president of student services, serves as guest reader for Freedom School harambee on Friday at the ONU Chapel. Freedom School is held for six weeks during the summer in Lima for children in kindergarten through 8th grade. The group takes field trips on Fridays, so this week 60 youngsters from the Freedom School were at Ohio Northern. The school teaches children about healthy living, self esteem and provides art activities and sports for the participants. Literacy skills is also a main goal.
Catapult is, technically, a shadow dance company. What it really is: a theatrical art form that is an amazingly imaginative combination of dance, story-telling, and sculpture.
Founded in 2009, by Adam Battlestein (choreographer, Creative Director and Master Teaching Artist for Pilobolus Dance Theatre for 19 years), Catapult catapulted to fame on Season 8 of America’s Got Talent, earning their way to the finals of the NBC-TV hit show.
Catapult is all about the human body and its ability to transform.
There is a certain science to becoming a scientist. It doesn’t happen overnight, and it certainly isn’t easy. But for those with a passion for discovery, it is worth every painstaking effort.
Fortunately for three of ONU molecular biology majors, a new on-campus summer research program has taught them just that. Sadie VanHorn, Charlotte Wirth and Jordyn Sanner are the most recent participants of ONU’s Polar Research Experience Program in Molecular Biology.

Mark Bricker, ONU/Sodexo grounds manager, tends a giant pot of annuals that add a splash of color to the Presser Hall entrance.
New this year are several pairs of large pots of flowers, which can be spotted at the walkway entrance between Hill and Dicke, between Wilson and Tilton, and Presser.
Mark, who has been at ONU for about a year, and his grounds crew tend the 342-acre campus that grows in beauty each year, now vying for one of the most beautiful campuses in Ohio.
