A Longaberger basket sale you won't want to miss

Karen Epley is retiring, three-day sale starts Thursday at Community Health Professionals

Karen Epley is retiring from selling Longaberger baskets at the end of October. She is selling her collection at Community Health Professionals this long weekend, Thursday from 10-5, Friday from 10-5 and Saturday from 10-3.

Tables and tables are laden with baskets and other items sold over the years by the Longaberger company.

Karen said her highest sales year was $55,000. She has had as many as 16 salespersons under her as branch advisor.

Last year she retired from her full-time job at Ohio Northern, having worked there for 27 years.

Application for Marathon pipeline would pass through Village of Ada groundwater supply

Mayor: "Pipeline does not seem to raise a lot of red flags, but we are concerned with anything passing through our groundwater supply"

Ada CIC members learned that Marathon Oil has filed an application with the Ohio EPA for construction of a 49-mile petroleum pipeline.

The proposed pipeline route passes through the Village of Ada’s groundwater supply.

David Retterer, Ada mayor, told CIC members that the proposed pipeline location does not seem to raise a lot of red flags, but that the village is concerned with anything passing through or over its groundwater supply.

Meet the Bluffton High School homecoming court

This weekend - downtown parade at 5:30 p.m.; court announced in pre-game

FROM BLUFFTON ICON - Bluffton High School homecoming is Friday. A homecoming parade in downtown Bluffton starts at 5:30 p.m. The king and queen will be announced on Harmon Field in a pre-game ceremony.

Queen candidates:

Abbie Parkins, daughter of Chad and Kristen Parkins. She participates in soccer, basketball, softball, middle school cafeteria worker, SADD, choir, NWC sportsmanship committee and math club. She is a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ. Her college plans are undecided, but she hopes to major in business.

Rose Stoodt was a former cook for Ada schools

Rose E. Stoodt, 82, died on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016 at 3:46 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.

She was born on Oct. 4, 1933, in Hardin County, Ohio, to Walter and Ruth (Kindle) Fox who preceded her in death. On Aug. 3, 1952 Rose married Galen L. Stoodt and he survives in Ada.

Rose was a member of the Ada Church of Christ Disciples. She was the former head of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a former cook for Ada Schools and she formerly worked at the Met Bank in Lima.

Also surviving are a son, Thomas (Darla) Stoodt of Elida; a daughter-in-law, Tamie Stoodt of Cairo; seven grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Garver of Ada.

Mike Bonnell named ONU men’s tennis coach

Mike Bonnell has been named the head men's tennis coach at Ohio Northern University. He will also serve as the facilities director for the athletics department and is the first full-time men's tennis coach in ONU history. Bonnell is an alumnus of Ohio Northern and played for the Polar Bears from 1990-1992. 

"I want to thank ONU Athletic Director Tom Simmons, and the entire search committee, for trusting me with this responsibility," Bonnell said. "Opportunities to coach at one's alma mater don't come along every day. I'm excited to be back in the state of Ohio, coaching at the school that has meant so much to me."
