Michael James Royle was born in England

Michael James Royle, 81, died Dec. 5, 2014, at his home in Ada, Ohio with his family by his side.

Mr. Royle was born April 23, 1933, in Manchester, England, to Sydney and Margaret Royle. After schooling, he joined the British Army for four years. He then traveled to America where he joined the United States Navy. He spent 20 years in the Naval Submarine Service, becoming a Chief before retiring in 1984 as a veteran. He then worked as a Civil Service employee on nuclear submarines.

Harry Simon was a 1936 Ada High School graduate

Harry D. Simon, 95, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014,at 3:34 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima, surrounded by his family.

He was born on Oct. 21, 1919 in Putnam County, Ohio, to Edward “Dutch” and Rosa (Badertscher) Simon, who preceded him in death.

He was the Water and Street Superintendent in Walbridge, Ohio, retiring in 1982 after 22 years. He formerly worked for the Ada Water Department for several years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII. Harry was a 1936 graduate of Ada High School.

He was a life member of the Walbridge VFW Post #9963. 

John Fisher was an Apollo Career Center grad

John A. Fisher, 39, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at 1:13 a.m. at the St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, in the presence of his family.

He was born on April 24, 1975, in Lima, Ohio to Bernard “Larry” Fisher, Sr. and Nancy (Donnal) Sprague. His father survives in Lima. His mother and his step-father, Howard Sprague, also reside in Lima.

John attended Allen East High School and graduated from Apollo Career Center in 1993. 

John “Fred” Hubbell served in the Korean Conflict

John F. “Fred” Hubbell, 75, died on Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at 5:03 p.m. at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.

He was born on July 15, 1939, in Hardin County to John E. and Margaret Lucille (Firestone) Hubbell and they preceded him in death. He married Sharon K. Simons on Aug. 23, 1969 and she survives in Alger.

Mr. Hubbell worked as an electrician for Ford Motor Company, Lima retiring in 1999 after working for 27 years. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served during the Korean Conflict.

Graveside service Friday for Jeffery Newland

Jeffrey P. Newland, 63, died on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. at Lost Creek Care Center, Lima.

He was born on Nov. 22, 1951, in Bluffton, Ohio to Torence Robert and Dorothea (Neu) Newland and they preceded him in death.

He formerly worked at Ohio Northern University in the Janitorial Department.

He is survived by two daughters: Amber (Zack Hosler) Wireman of Alger and Tabitha Newland of Lima; four grandchildren; four brothers: Dennis (Kathy) Burris of Ada, Steve (Pat) Burris of Lima, Robert Newland, Jr. of Lakeview and Mike (Sue) Newland of Lima; one sister: Diana (Bill) Hoffer of Ada; a step sister, Carol Fletcher of Ada; step mother, Della Newland of Ada.

James Lewis was a purchasing agent at ONU

James "Jim" L. Lewis, 72, of Ada died at 9:35 p.m.  Dec. 1, 2014, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, surrounded by his family.  He was born Aug. 25, 1942, in Beaverdam to the late Charles and LaVaun Reeder Lewis. On July 27, 1963, he married Betty Gaiffe and she survives. 

He retired after 30 years from Ohio Northern University where he worked as a purchasing agent. He was a graduate of Beaverdam High School and a veteran of the Navy during the Cuban missile crisis.
