Helen Epley Shepherd was a 1938 Ada High School graduate

Helen E. Epley Shepherd, 94, died January 25 at 10:33 a.m. at Hearth & Home, Springfield, Ohio.

She was born September 19, 1920 in Owl’s Eye, Alberta, Canada to Ray and Grace (Stober) Epley and they preceded her in death. On June 27, 1942 she married Charles A. Shepherd and he died on January 8, 1968.

Helen was a homemaker and had worked at Liberty National Bank of Ada for 15 years. She was a graduate of Ada High School class of 1938.

Following retirement, Bob Reichenbach worked at Health Check

Robert "Bob" L. Reichenbach, 84, died Jan. 19, 2015, at 7:15 a.m., at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. He was born April 8, 1930, in Marion, Ohio, to the late William and Sibyl (Cooley) Reichenbach.  On Jan. 14, 1955, he married Carrol Goodwin Reichenbach who survives.

He was a life-long farmer and retired from Ex-Cell-O Corporation, Bluffton.  After retirement, he worked at his daughter and son-in-law's health food store, Health Check in Ada. He was an active member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Bluffton, and was assisted in the Bible Study group at Willow Ridge, Bluffton.

Paul E. Risner funeral service on Friday morning

Funeral services for Paul E. Risner will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with Pastor Trent Boedicker officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Risner, 76, died at 8:33 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, in an auto accident.

He was born on Oct. 23, 1938, in Lima, Ohio to Elmer R. and Ellen Elizabeth (Gilroy) Risner and they preceded him in death. On May 19, 1956, he married Carolyn J. Gullett and she survives in Bluffton.

Evan Simon was Ada business owner, charter member of Lions Club

Evan W. Simon, 91, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at 11:50 p.m. at Hardin Hills Health Center, Kenton, surrounded by family.

He was born Jan. 3, 1924 in Hardin County, Ohio to Edward “Dutch” and Rosa (Badertscher) Simon, and they preceded him in death. On Aug.11, 1942, he married Dorothy Marie Baier, and she died Dec. 29, 2008.

Mr. Simon was a barber for 23 years in Ada and Dunkirk. He later owned Simon’s Sohio, retiring in 1987. He was a 1941 graduate of Ada High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Phillipines during WWII.

Barbara Morrison retired from Rockwell International

Barbara S. Morrison, age 69, died on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 5 a.m. at Riverside Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.

She was born on July 19, 1945 in Floyd County, Kentucky to Edgar and Christine (Reffitt) Lafferty and they preceded her in death.

She retired from Rockwell International of Kenton. She formerly worked at Upper Scioto Valley Schools as a custodian and the Alger Freeze. She was a past member of the Alger Memorial Festival Committee and the Alger Veterans Memorial Committee. She and her sister, Bonnie were a two member committee that brought Santa to the Alger Fire Department for more than 20 twenty years.

Anthony "Tony" D'Arca worked at Harco Industries

Anthony John “Tony” D’Arca, 23, died on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at 9:13  p.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

He was born on Jan. 17, 1991 in Lima, Ohio to Rick John and Laura Denise (Bontz) D’Arca and they survive in Ada.

Tony worked at Harco Industries of Kenton. He was a bronze medalist bowler for the Special Olympics and had a special love for Sesame Street, Disney and Dr. Suess. He was loved by all who knew him.

Also surviving are brother, Paul Joseph D’Arca of Columbus; sister, Nikki Paynter of Chestertown, Md.; and paternal grandmother Ronnie Bell of Palatine, Ill.
