Ada Icon supports Mental Health levy on Nov. 3

The Icon supports the 0.5 mil renewal levy of the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin Counties. The levy is on the Nov. 3 ballot. If approved it will continue to support this agency’s current expenses for the next 10 years.

For 40 years, voters have approved this 0.5 mil levy, which supports basic mental health and alcohol and drug treatment for adults and children.

This renewal levy is not a new tax and ensures that these vial services for children, families and adults continue in our community.

Ada Icon says vote "Yes" on Issue 1 on Nov. 3

ICON OPINION - VOTE YES ON ISSUE 1 ON NOV. 3

On Nov 3, Ohioans will have the opportunity to solve a divisive problem facing our state. Issue 1 defines a new method for drawing state legislative districts and embodies a compromise reached by Legislators of both parties.

It was put on the ballot by an overwhelming, bi-partisan vote in both the Ohio House and Senate. After many proposals brought forth by legislators and other political interests, Issue 1 is the first proposal brought to the voters on a bipartisan basis while establishing stronger transparency and accountability in the way state legislative districts are drawn.

Did you see it? If not, it returns in 2033

Stargazers were treated to an eclipse of a supermoon, the first time since 1987.

This photo was taken at 9:20 p.m. on Sunday when the moon was between the two Ada water towers, which are barely visible to the left and right.

Luckily, clouds did not spoil the viewing in Ada.

A supermoon occurs when the moon is closet to Earth, making the moon appear 14% larger and 30% brighter.

The eclipse lasted for 1 hour and 11 minutes.

Missed it? The next supermoon eclipse will be in 2033.

For the Owlsburg (or Van's) fan club - here's another photo

Owlsburg Tavern, or Van's, which ever you prefer, appears to be one of the stories of the year on the Icon. It received over 6,000 Facebook recognitions in a recent story, reaching viewers all the way to eastern Europe.

For the many Icon fans of the establishment at the corner of State Route 235 and Lincoln Highway, here's an earlier photo from the Icon archives.

102 candles on Aggie's cake on Saturday

By Monty Siekerman
Aggie Crates, who will celebrate her 102nd birthday on Saturday chats with "youngster" Teed Neiswander, 92, at ReStore on Tuesday.

Both are longtome Adaites. Those wishing to send a birthday card to Aggie may address it to:

At ReStore, Aggie recited three long Christian poems from memory, not missing a beat, and received applause and admiration from the diners who were present for Crock Pot Tuesday.

Despite the rain...despite the freight train...thanks everyone!

Harvest and Herb attendees:

30 years of a glorious fall festival in Ada Ohio, and this year we have 30 minutes of  “HOLY COW! What else can happen?”

Our typical, perfect, sunny, fall day was replaced this year with cloudy rain. Our traditionally spectacular parade was interrupted by a harder rain, wind, thunder, lightening and then literally divided in half by the railroad gates going down.

But the parade MUST go on, until an actual train of 100 plus cars decided to pass by. In the 30 years of the festival this was only the third train appearance.
