Barbara Holbrook 1948-2014

Barbara A. Holbrook, 66, died on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014 at 3:44 a.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

She was born on April 26, 1948, in Kenton, Ohio, to Tom and Patricia (Risner) Holbrook and they preceded her in death. First married Dexter Rowe and he died in 1988. She later married Neil Duffman and he is also deceased.

She was a homemaker. She attended the Pentecostal Church.

Russell Staley served 46 years as a Jackson Township trustee

Russell D. Staley, age 97, died on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at 12:13 p.m. at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.

He was born on Oct. 3, 1917 in Jackson Township, Allen County, Ohio to George Washington and Edith Edna (Ackerman) Staley and they preceded him in death.

He married Winifred Colleen Mason on July 3, 1941, and she died on Aug. 26, 2012.

School photos rescheduled for Monday

Due to the unexpected cancellation of school last week two events were rescheduled for Monday, Nov. 3. Those events follow:

School Pictures:
Junior high and high school pictures have been rescheduled for Monday, Nov. 3. This includes senior composite pictures. Senior composite pictures for Apollo students only will begin at 7 a.m. in the band room. All other seniors will be called per public address announcement during first period. Picture retakes have been rescheduled for Dec. 2.

Police treat

It was a great night to celebrate Halloween in Ada on Thursday. Ada police got into the spirit of the evening as they handed out treats to Halloweeners.

You graduated from Ada High School in 2010. What have you been doing since then?
I attended Cosmetology School but am currently not doing that. I work for Westport Homes and am looking into getting my realtor's license and maybe going back to school in the near future.

How did you end up living in Indiana?
I moved to Indiana with Thomas and Jordan Hirn after we graduated high school. Honestly it was the best decision I made after high school.

"Air pollution, ozone, and climate change topic of Phi Delta lecture

Ohio Northern University’s Phi Beta Delta honorary society for international scholars presents a lecture by Jesus Ramirez in the Dicke Forum on Monday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. The title of Ramirez’s lecture is “Air Pollution, Ozone and Climate Change.”

Ramirez is with the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment, and he is the group leader of the Institute of Meteorology and the multidisciplinary group on ozone. Part of his responsibilities involves making daily forecasts for the entire country concerning environmental and climatological effects on major Cuban crops.
