Your invitation to a very interesting Earth Day evening in Ada

By Amy Eddings
There are two meanings to the verb, to ferment, and Tara Whitsitt embodies them both.

Not only is she an accomplished culinary artist who makes her own yogurt, kimchi, vinegar, and sourdough bread; she ferments — or stirs up — interest in these cultured foods through her project, Fermentation on Wheels.  She tours the country in an old 1986 International Harvester bus that she’s turned into a traveling kitchen and classroom.
Fermentation on Wheels rolls into my driveway in Ada, this Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, for a potluck and culture swap.

Saturday in the park - what a way to welcome spring to Ada

And they said it was going to rain.

Not a cloud in the sky and not one disappointed Ada youngster on Saturday. The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce with lots of volunteers hosted a great way to greet spring on Saturday.

The kid-oriented event had games, face painting, a kids' railroad, opportunity to make musical instruments, check in with Santa, plant a tree and take home a tree seeding.

There was lots, lot more.

Monty Siekerman provides Icon viewers with a photo scrapbook of the event. Open the attachment below for more photos.

A bigger, better concession stand and a new water play zone are some of the features Ada village officials say they’d like to add to the community’s pool when a major renovation begins next year.  They outlined their wish list for the village’s Community Improvement Committee at their meeting last Wednesday at Ohio Northern University.

A Friday artist

Chopsticks Night a big hit on campus

ONU's annual Chopsticks Night featured great food, entertainment and plasticware for those not accustomed to chopsticks.

Sponsored by the Asian American Student Union, the event drew a large crowd of hungry folks who, by and large, managed quite well with the wooden chopsticks.

We asked, "Why did you come to Chopstick Night," and got these replies:

• I love Asian food.
• My family uses chopsticks.
• I learned from an exchange student from South Korea my family hosted several years ago.
• Food tastes better using wood utensils instead of plastic or metal.
