Here's the lastest from Jumbo Junior Farmers 4-H Club

Jumbo Junior Farmers 4-H Club met on July 25, 2016 for their eighth meeting of the year.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Micah Cook followed by the 4-H Pledge led by Asher Bridenstine.  Roll call was answered with favorite cake by ll members with 2 advisors and 7 parents/guests present.  

For officer reports, Jake Bushong gave an environmental report on using manure on fields as fertilzer.  He discussed the positives and possible negatives of using manure on fields.

Hardin County OSU Extension is sponsoring a fruit and vegetable Crop Walk program on Tuesday, Aug. 9 from 6-8 p.m.  The program will include an emphasis on fruit and vegetable production. The location of the program is 15460 County Road 209, Kenton.

OSU Extension Horticulturist Jim Jasinski will be giving recommendations for pumpkins, squash, cucumbers, and melons.  He will also provide information on managing insect pests that infest produce. 

High school sports practices officially start Aug. 1

Summer conditioning programs and 10 days of coaching come to an end this weekend as the first official day of practice for all OHSAA fall sports arrives Monday, Aug. 1, according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

ONU volleyball team gets 6th consecutive honor

The Ohio Northern volleyball team was named an Team Academic Award winner for 2015-16 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

The Polar Bears were one of 762 teams nationwide to earn the honor.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. 

This marks the sixth consecutive year and the 12th time overall that Ohio Northern has won the award.

ONU’s Davis All-American Scholar

Junior Tyler Davis was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar for the 2015-16 men's golf season by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.

There's gold in that football stadium...and purple and white, too

2016 is the summer that they painted the town.

The Ada watertower painting is underway. And the Ada High School football stadium is looking pretty good also, thanks to a well-deserved overhaul.

The stadium work has a hometown touch. Tom Wilcox of T.J. Painting and Repair was awarded the stadium paint job. It includes adding some purple and gold to the stadium plus a complete new coat of white.

Bulldog fans will also find a golden bulldog on his haunches under the press box. Fans will also appreciate an update on the two popular football players on the press box back side.
