The Ada area was treated to more seasonable weather this past week, as shown by observations from Pandora weather observer Guy Verhoff.

Bulldog netters nip Upper Sandusky

The Ada High School tennis team defeated visiting Upper Sandusky 3-2 Monday, April 9, on a warm, sunny evening at the park courts.

The Bulldogs improved their record to 4-4 with the victory in the regular season finale. 

Ada swept all three singles matches to register the win.

Ada senior Dexter Woods utilized a solid ground game and good serving to post a convincing 6-1, 6-3 win at first singles.

Junior Brendan Jameson triumphed in a three-setter at second singles.

Heady Ada junior Amelia Alexander also won handily 6-1, 6-2 at third singles by keeping the ball in play and rarely making errors.

Bulldog softball fends off Red Devils, wins sectional

The Ada High School varsity softball team utilized good pitching, solid defense and a bunting offense to eliminate visiting Arlington 6-4 in the Div. IV sectional semifinals Monday evening, May 9.

The sixth-seeded Lady Bulldogs improved to 4-12 after the win. The eighth seed Red Devil girls fell to 3-13 with the defeat. 

Ada plays at third-seeded Leipsic (13-4) Thursday, May 12 in the sectional finals. The Viking girls won at Ada 13-3 May 2.

"Small ball helped our offense, and our defense was pretty good," said Bulldog head coach Jeff Bassitt.

ONU graduates Q&A

With the COVID-19 pandemic altering the health care landscape in numerous ways, recent ONU nursing graduates have been at the first responder forefront.

What have their experiences been like thus far? Two 2021 Ohio Northern University graduates, who are also engaged to be married, offered their thoughts on becoming nurses during these challenging times.

James Fisher, BSN '21, from Castalia, Ohio, is working at the Cleveland Clinic’s medical ICU at Fairview Hospital. Christina Stalla, BSN '21, from North Ridgeville, Ohio, is working at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus on a medical/surgical telemetry unit caring for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses.

ONU Softball wins second straight OAC Tournament title

The top-seeded Ohio Northern softball team won the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament championship on Sunday, May 8, defeating No. 3 seed Mount Union 4-3 at the ONU softball field to cap an unbeaten run through the tournament.

This marks the second straight OAC Tournament title for the Polar Bears (24-9 overall) and their seventh in program history, and it earns them the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament.

ONU will find out its NCAA Tournament destination and first-round opponent on Monday.

Mount Union, which ends its season at 23-18-1 overall, eliminated No. 2 seed Muskingum earlier in the day with a 3-0 victory to advance to play ONU.
