Multi-faceted Ada native and veteran races cars, teaches

Terry Miller, a 1972 Ada High School graduate, has lived a versatile life of adventure, from Vietnam veteran to policeman to car-racing Florida professor. Teaching has allowed him to pursue his great passions of auto racing and the study of criminology.

Born in Atlanta, he moved with his family to Ada in 1960 and grew up with three sisters and their parents, George and Louise. George was a long-time Ohio Northern University education professor who earned a degree from Duke in aeronautical engineering.

Weekend Doctor: Penicillin allergy

Do you have a penicillin allergy? Even if you were allergic, you may not be any longer!

With the cold and flu seasons come frequent trips to the doctor’s office. For some, treatment with an antibiotic is needed and having an antibiotic allergy can really limit a person’s options, causing providers to treat with less safe, less effective and more costly antibiotics.

Reminder: Youth Soccer late fees after June 30

The Ada Soccer Association has issued a reminder that regular registration for the fall season will end on June 30.

Registration from July 1-9 will incur an automatic late fee.

Howard R. Schick worked for Dow Chemical

Howard R. Schick, age 93, of Ada, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 8:25 a.m. at Vancrest of Ada.

He was born on October 1, 1928, in Jackson Township, Ohio to Cloyd R. and Mildred A. (Hochstettler) Schick who preceded him in death.  On May 26, 1950, Howard married Colleen A. Connor and she preceded him in death on June 2, 2019.

Howard is survived by a son, Wendell (Diane) Schick of Westminster; two daughters: Cynthia (Tim) Hanover of St. Marys and Linell (Jeff) Hertenstein of St. Marys; a daughter-in-law, Linda Schick of Howell, MI; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene (Merle) Gerdeman of Wheaton, IL.
