Astronomy club meeting and Perseid viewing

The Hardin County Astronomy Club will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 10 at the Hardin County Courthouse Veterans Meeting Room.

The club will also hold a Perseid meteor shower viewing party at the McGuffey Park on August 12 or 13 with an inclement weather night the next night.

Organizers note, "More information to come as we pin down the date. Full Moon will interfere with meteor observing. Bring blankets, lawn chairs, binoculars, telescopes, snacks, RED flashlights, mosquito repellant.

"Leave home any white flashlights or bright lights."

Probable case of monkeypox identified in Allen County

Learn about symptoms of monkeypox

Allen County Public Health (ACPH) is announcing that one probable case of monkeypox has been identified in Allen County. As of 8/4/22, the CDC is identifying 38 known cases of monkeypox in Ohio.

Allen County residents should be aware of the following symptoms of monkeypox infection:

Rash that looks similar to pimples or blisters. The rash will go through stages that include scabs before healing. The rash can be located on one or more areas of the body including: hands, feet, chest, face, genitals, or inside the mouth, vagina, or anus.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library celebrated, promoted

On August 9, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio and Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine will welcome Dolly Parton herself to celebrate the success of the Imagination Library program in Ohio.

Our corner of northwest Ohio will also be represented at the luncheon by Annetta Holmes, now retired from United Way and who helped start the program in Hardin County; Karen Moore from Forest-Jackson Public Library; Beccy Ramsey from Ridgemont Public Library; and Stacey Hensley from Alger Public Library. A livestream of the event will be available at www.OhioImaginationLibrary.org/livestream.

Blessing and free backpacks for students at F&M Picnic

Bulldog Backpack Blessings will be one of the attractions at the August 13 Farmers & Merchants Picnic at Ada's War Memorial Park.

For Ada students in grades K-12, free backpacks and some school supplies will be given out from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. (or while supplies last).

Library hosts master gardener tomato program

This Saturday, Master Gardener Stewart Coats will present a program about planting tomatoes and other gardening tips

  • At 11:00 a.m., August 6
  • Ada Public Library, 320 N. Main St.
